I have a character who breaks a leg ( compound fracture) and gets an infection severe enough to have a fever, what would be the routine treatment for this? And about how long would it take to recover?
The answer is “months,” if the infection is in the bone.
Osteomyelitis is damned hard to treat, because bones don’t get a terribly high amount of blood flow. Antibiotics will last for quite a while to make sure the infection is gone. Your character can lose limbs this way. They may also have to have surgery to cut out the infected portion of the bone, but this is a case-by-case thing.
