Hi, I'm absolutely fascinated by your theories about Dean and about the whole question of divine figures in Supernatural in general. I was wondering, if we accept the premise that Dean is God (or a part of God), how do you think that relates to Dean's pre-Spn story. Was he God from the beginning? You also said that Dean is God without knowing. Why do you think that it? Did he make himself forget? Or is he connected with Dean, but still a separate entity and that is why Dean doesn't know?
Aww thank you, I’m glad you enjoy them. Most of them are just some crazy out of the box thinking paired with some headcanons/wishlists and episode analysis. :D
Oh yes, my theory on Dean as divine or possibly God is not a very fixed theory, meaning I don’t have any hard parameters for this scenario. But to answer your question about Dean’s pre-S1-story. For Dean as a divine being, a sort of christ figure and with that a human embodiment of the divine much like Jesus and with that a sort of “face” of God, I am kind of working with a similar scenario as we have seen play out with the angel Anna.
Meaning when I talk about Dean not knowing he has god like powers it’s a dualistic thing. On the one hand one could assume that God “fell” (like Anna) and was reborn in Dean (as Joshua says God is on Earth) so that he lost his memories but equipped Dean with certain powers. On the other hand, and that is much more how I see it fitting to SPN is that Dean lacks faith not only in God or religion but mostly himself. Just as he is unable to understand his own value and that he deserves to be loved and saved and that he is worthy, he is unable to acknowledge how powerful of a character and person he has proven to be over the course of the seasons, because while Dean talks about free will, I don’t thin he has ever quite realized how huge it was for him to be able to intervene in Michael and Lucifer fighting. It was HIM that changed the story, he wrote himself into it and that alone is an ability that is God like. But Dean only sees his failures, holds on to his shortcomings and with that seems almost incapable to see how powerful he truly is. This goes for him being able to avert Cain’s prophecy too. He changed the story there again, but I don’t think in any of these cases he ever stopped and realized what he achieved there. So this inability of Dean to acknowledge his own strength to me belongs in the a God unknowingly category, because Dean would sit back and laugh at you if you’d try to tell him all this. :)
That being said, if God is a separate entity like Amara and not like it is so often said “in everything, flower, men animals, whatever”, then I do definitely think he does have a certain connection to Dean why or how, I don’t know, but Amara’s interest in Dean as her brother’s creation proves that there is definitely something about Dean that reminds her of her brother too.
Hope this did not make it more complicated. :)
