Ms Poodle’s Got A Brand New Pigseg!

MsPoodle’s decided to make a police set amongst other things for Boroughsburg (of which there must be about a thousand blogs, Dumblrs and forum threads dedicated to what Simmers are doing with it by now).

We’ll skip over the decor police car and go for the vehicle that your Simmies can use:

For those of you wondering what that is – some device for painting lines on the road or a motorcycle for a ten year old perhaps – it is a tricycle version of a Segway aka ‘hoverboard’. You know, those things which were going to revolutionise transport because Peter Gabriel said so, but never did (and even more ironic the first person killed on one was its inventor when he drove one over a cliff – probably when he realised he’d put his entire fortune on the latest Sinclair C5 type disaster).

Unbelievably, police and private security services have spent a fortune on these as somehow more versatile than mopeds or motorbikes. No, we don’t see it either. But apparently they are cheap as chips to run – the real benefit.

Anyway, MsPoodle’s upload states plainly that we are to read the text instructions inside – which is rather handy considering all the bits and pieces within.

Is the text file within the zip file within the zip file?

Let’s read it:

If you are going to tell people to read the text file – here’s a suggestion, read the text file your bloody self first!

Or, perhaps, put up clearer instructions when you put something up for download instead of pushing it in as a job lot with the original custom content and thinking ‘meh, they’ll all figure it out.’

Anyway, after that, no way are we going to be letting a certain Lost Island bumnugget fob this one off on poor Kirry – we’ve been mean enough to her of late – so if anyone’s going to guinea pig this pigseg, it’s going to be…

‘It’s the posh flats on the southside, of course I’m pleased. Not really one for cities, but have to say they’re doing a good job refurbishing this place around here, even if the Boroughsburg Community Council in its finite wisdom decided to give the redevelopment contract to that old twister Uncle Ghastly from Lonely Island!’

Be fair, there were only five residents left in the whole place.

‘Yeah, and not only did they leave, but even the rats packed their bags at the news they were letting him do it, saying “there goes the neighbourhood!”‘

Oh well, it can only get better from here.

‘Mark my words, it’ll be a hipster’s paradise within a month!’

Oh well, at least that will keep Zhivankarst and Jix2993 happy! Anyway, time for you to try out this trike.

‘Great. I get to visit the most exquisitely detailed city map in all of Simming history, and have to tour it in a stand up version of Sir Clive Sinclair’s giant rollerskate.’

That’s the joy though, experiencing a whole new culture and whole new place in a whole new manner, and gaining new insights from it.

‘It’s certainly giving me new insights – in fact I think it is helping me find my inner male side.’

Inner male side?

‘Yeah, the longer I’m riding this, the more and more of a knob-end I feel!’

Oh well, that makes it sensual, in a manner of speaking.

‘Shaddup, you big bunch of tarty trams.’

Okay, so now you’ve tried one out, what’s the verdict?

‘It’s as fast as a motorbike at speed six (hardly surprising when based on a Jambouree’s engine), which is a plus, but let’s be honest these things simply aren’t as stylish as a motorbike or moped – and you can get them for about the same or from custom content creators for cheaper Simoleons (if you don’t feel like cheating!). Worse, it takes up a car’s parking space, unlike a bike or moped.’

‘My verdict for what it is worth is this is strictly a vehicle for functional use, story telling and the like – such as a really bizarre Steampunk Romans vs Egyptians chariot battle – but no way would I want to drive around in it.’

Erm, by the way Lauryl, the object of the game is to put the ball in the basket – not yourself!

‘Aaarrrrrrghh!’

What goes up…

‘And that dear readers is almost a metaphor for this Pigseg – an idea that’s a basket case fallen on its arse!’

I'm in the same camp as @danjaley. I always assumed EA was going to do more with the table. I personally think they cut it out and opted for the one interaction and didn't adjust the mesh and texture. And hooray for learning script modding. Thanks for sharing that link. I sooo want to learn. Maybe oneday I'll have time for everything I want to learn.

Yes they probably could not make a deadline somewhere and tossed it out. That link won’t help you much unless you are on Linux like me (or on Mac too I think)^^ but there are great guides at MTS on how to set up Visual Studio for Windows. Also there are Tutorials there for the basics of script modding and the rest really is getting some programming basics in with tutorials on the web and reading lots of gamecode, which you can see in Reflector on Windows. It is already build in in MonoDevelop XamarinStudio on Linux, so I can browse it there directly.

Also starring are hfos Li and @ninjaofthepurplethings‘ male base sim turned into a half naked zombie.
