Something Wicked (loving) this way comes || Shelby & Juliette
It hadn’t been easy or fun and there was still a lot up in the air --not least of which was how the rest of her siblings, old and new, would react once they learned the truth-- but at least Juliette and her mother were more or less back where they used to be. Back where Juliette had always thought they were.
That was the only reason she’d gone to work today and then only after securing Flora’s promise that if she needed Juliette, she would call her. Even then, Juliette couldn’t shake the feeling that she should have stayed with her mother for moral support when she went to tell Esme.
Assuming her mother could get ten minutes with Esme, that is. Which was just one more reason she should have stayed home and provided her Momma with some moral support while Flora tried to talk her eldest daughter into meeting face to face. But since she’d gotten to have her mother all to herself when she’d learned the truth, Esme deserved the same chance.
Even so, Juliette was half tempted to head to her sister’s office instead of the record store as she made her way to the subway station.
Work was... work. Or it would have been if the foot traffic wasn’t unusually --and unfortunately-- slow; Juliette would have preferred the distraction of a busy day. Her feelings must have shown because not long after lunch, and with no sign of traffic picking up, her boss suggested she take the rest of her shift off.
Juliette didn’t argue. She was out of the shop within minutes, phone in hand, and every intention of texting her mother that she’d be back to her dorm soon (and asking if Flora had had any luck getting in touch with Esme), but she’d only made it a few steps before she put her phone back into her bookbag, text unsent.
Either her Momma had gotten in touch with Esme and was already talking to her, or she gotten in touch and been shot down, or she hadn’t and was still trying and in any case, Flora had decided not to keep Juliette updated for a reason. And given that they’d spent last night dealing with some of the fallout of her Momma keeping secrets from her, Flora must have had a damn good reason not to.
Besides, if she went home and Flora was still waiting on Esme for whatever reason, Juliette might not be able to hold herself back from hunting her sister down and giving her an earful wherever she was.
So with a few hours to fill, at least, Juliette had a choice to make. And a passing bus helped her make it. At least the add for Wicked attached to its side did. She needed a distraction and she’d made a promise, what better way to fulfil both than spending her afternoon at Broadway Baby Daycare.
Juliette fished her phone from her bag long enough to double check the address before heading for the subway once more.
“Hi. I’m Juliette. I was talking to Ms Corcoran online and she said y’all are looking for volunteers?” Juliette said to the woman at the front desk several minutes later.
