soohwa was so focused in the main activities organized by the staff of mokseong uni that he almost forgot that the carnival was much more than simply about those activities and it required him esther to remind him of that and that participating in the carnival doesn’t necessarily mean that those activities are the only option. esther comes with a nice reminder about those other rides too, even if soohwa isn’t exactly the person who loves outings and those sort of hang outs, but he can say that he does enjoy the most wild rides of a carnival, or at least, he likes the idea of them since he has never been to one before, muggle or otherwise.

but he does admit that part of him enjoying this so much is because of his company. esther and him have a little of history together, her being the first and only person that he ended up in a romantic relationship with even if they ended up feeling more like friends than an actual couple and their relationship was doomed to not work out in the end, and soohwa is glad that they ended up still being friends despite it all, was a little scared that he might’ve lost a good friend just because they took a wrong step. 

“should we go to that roller coaster next?” soohwa asks and points to the closest roller coaster to them. after all, their goal is to go into all the most exciting rides of the carnival before it closest. “and then we can go to that one that goes all the way up and then drops us suddenly.” he doesn’t know if his description is understandable because he has only seen that ride from afar while they were still walking around and trying to decide where they’re going next.

When her room was feeling too stuffy to study in, Malia would head down to the library. There, it was spacious, quiet, and had all the resources she needed (and then some) available at just a flick of her wand. On several occasions she happened to run into fellow Toseong, Kim Hyewon. She was allows courteous, making sure to greet the junior and keeping herself at a proper distance while coincidentally walking to the same location every time. This went on for a about a week before the older had eventually invited Malia to join her. Not being one to turn down company, she agreed. Ever since, these library study sessions had become something of a routine. 

Today, Malia couldn’t help but look at the other with concern as they sat before their respective assignments in silence. She’d come to learn that Hyewon was rather serious in many regards, but today had just felt different. It was as if the older was even more serious (if that were possible) and concerned over something, though Malia had no idea what. Although the younger didn’t want to impose herself in any of the other’s personal matters, she also couldn’t fight the desire to check in on her.

“Hey...Hyewon...” She whispered, still hesitant about her actions. “Is everything okay?”

It was a pleasing end of afternoon and Alec was indeed glad he could enjoy it without having to think about everything he had left back at school. It was saturday after all and he took a very deserved time off to go out and to shop around but also to clear up his head after a busy week.

The typical autumn season started with weird heat waves and nights hotter than they were used to and for that exact reason he didn’t bring any coat with him, his light white jacket serving him just right for the day outside.

But as things never really worked how they should, it was past 7pm and he felt the very first winds hit his arms through the said thin garment, making his whole body shiver. He considered his options for the day - call it quits and return to the dorms or enjoy the rest of the night at a cozy cafe, drinking something.

Second option sounded more promising.

He had never visited that small cafe, located just across the robe’s shop so it was an easy pic for the ever curious Alec Lee.

The place itself was even smaller when one was inside and he felt embraced immediately, his legs taking him to the counter, ready to make an order for something warm. “Hot chocolate with cinnamon please”, he added after checking the chart of beverages right in front of him. 

As he paid for his order, he heard the distinctive sound of a chime and the door opening behind him, bringing along with the person the cold wind outside. Alec could have made a face but as he realized it was one of his schoolmates, he just offered Hyewon a smile; she looked just like him, if not colder than Alec. “Whoever said the day wasn’t going to be cold, deserves to be fired.”

soohwa knows that the cheerleader costume isn’t something that he’d pick up himself. in fact he’d never pick any costume up anyway, after all, he was never really the type to enjoy hallooween, not when he much preferred staying at his own room, cuddling with his crup and enjoying some netflix or simply going to the astronomy tower and enjoy the company of cookie watching the stars and talking to his magical creature about all the types of constellations and planets and astronomy stuff. he knows that and that’s the only reason he isn’t half as annoyed as he’d normally be when esther (or friday) seems a little too amused about the way that he’s dressed. besides soohwa knows that esther would never be mean about this. 

but he still has a reputation to keep, an image to protect and that’s why soohwa is prepared to roll his eyes and spend the whole time they’re in the mirror maze pretending that he’s annoyed whenever she’d tease him about this costume or how hyunki stylized his hair. the grad student can admit deep down that he sort of looks cute. he has always known that he was much prettier than actually handsome, that his features were more delicate than tough and it definitely doesn’t help when he does things like always shaving both his legs and face whenever any hair starts growing because soohwa has never liked those anyway. it doesn’t help that he does look after the skin os his legs to always be soft and smooth and that’s why they mostly smell of peaches because of the products that he uses. it doesn’t help that soohwa has never been tall, that besides his broad shoulders, he doesn’t have a lot of masculine features anyway.

that’s why he looks extra small wearing that oversized jacket and then there are the buns on the top of his head that somehow hyunki managed to make even if soohwa doesn’t have that much of a long hair. he wouldn’t be surprised if someone mistook him for a girl if they weren’t looking closely enough. soohwa doesn’t mind that, at least, now he doesn’t mind as much as he did back when hyunki first showed on his door with a bag full of panties and a cheerleader costume. but he still sighs very heavily, more than he should to make it sound actually genuine when esther gets close to him enough in front of the mirror maze. “go ahead. let it out all, whatever teasing or joke or whatever you have, come on.”

     when he had first heard of the whole halloween event thing, he was pretty excited. halloween was prime time for pranks and whatnot and he can’t wait to pull something else tis time with kiyoung and taejun, and live up to their self-appointed marauders (except like, not really since they weren’t planning to actually name their crew aside from them just going crew crew all the time. it was dumb but he didn’t mind LOL) 

     either way, he knew he was going to be matching costumes with ami this time too, so he didn’t really reach out to talk to anyone else about matching outfits. though, he kinda wishes he had, if only to be the third spider-man to his friends’ two spider-men. but he’s also okay with not being part of that, honestly, pretty happy to be the peter pan to ami’s tinkerbell. 

     but right now? he’s challenging his sister to a pumpkin carving competition. 

     “are we carving each other?” jaewon asks, blinking at @msuhyewon for a long moment before he grimaces. “i feel like this is a terrible idea and i haven’t even touched my pumpkin yet,” he comments, frowning afterwards, almost exaggeratedly. “we weren’t blessed with artistic genes.”

hyewon’s sweet–she’d been sweet to astrid from the moment they’d met, back when astrid was a fresh new face to mokseong. she’d not known her way around, and being out of her depth had scared her. she wasn’t used to not knowing everything and everyone, and had taken all the help anyone would offer her. so, that’s how they’d met. hyewon had been a massive help to astrid during her first few months at mokseong, while she got the hang of things and learnt the ins and outs of the university. 

now, though, she knows her way around, knows what she’s doing and when, and doesn’t need hyewon’s help. that’s doesn’t mean she doesn’t still enjoy her company though. often, astrid will invite hyewon out to the local village for a chat and some tea, or a wander through the robe shop. today’s no different. with the start of the new school year came a whole host of fun things to tell each other, whether it be from their summers away from msu, or the first few weeks back. 

“so,” astrid starts, holding the door to the little team room open for hyewon to go ahead of her, “anything interesting happen recently?” she asks, heading over to a little table near the window so they can look out at the people wandering along the street. “my summer was pretty boring, but i’m sure i can find something of interest to tell you about. that or we can talk boys since that’s all the gossip i’ve got since coming back.” honestly, astrid would rather her updates weren’t about boys, but what can she say? she just can’t stay away from them.

       "you want the truth? alright, i think the ghosts of your ancestors cursed me because honestly, i don't why we constantly bump into each other whenever you're in trouble and i happen to be the temporary solution. it has to be a curse, if it happens more than three times then it can't be a coincidence anymore. maybe your ancestors approve me as an in-law so if you have any sister, brother or a single cousin, feel free to introduce me to them.” or maybe it's just an atlas and esther’s thing.

what do you like the most about yourself?

“you do know this is where you’re supposed to ask me about darkest secrets, my deepest insecurities, not— not this. but i guess considering it’s you, of course this would be used to make me say something nice about myself.

i think that i like how independent i am the most, that i don’t feel the need to wait on other people or rely on them to get things done, how i can make do with myself and myself alone. i don’t know how to develop this further so there you are. happy now?”
