Mt. Lanakila probably has that elevator because that mountain is basically a death trap. So here you are from Alola: used to tropical climate, with temps in the 80s and 90s degree fahrenheit, probably going no lower than 60, and suddenly you’re headed up a mountain that drops below freezing, with snow year round long, and guessing from the fact that it is Alola’s tallest mountain, little oxygen in its atmosphere. Since it was used for island challenges before the Pokemon League was built, I’m not surprised if that mountain has claimed the lives of thousands of trainers in the past.
