Halfway Through the PHM Movie Thoughts

The Awesome

Ryan Gosling is the perfect Grace

The movies goes out of its way to put in these little humanizing moments that weren’t in the book like the earth simulator room, Eva at karaoke, fleshing out Carl, etc

I love how they brought Rocky to life

Good choice movie to have the video log

The Hail Mary ship herself feels like a character

And Grace and Rocky’s friendship is ten plus!

The Not So Awesome

Grace is pathetic but he’s not that pathetic come on.

Movie only watchers let me tell you that you guys are majorly missing out when it comes to Eva Stratt and the rest of the phm team. Those flashbacks are some of the best in the book and they changed so much characterization. (Yao is stoic to everyone’s crazy instead of goofy in the movie, they skipped Dubois and Shapiro situationship , no academic infighting between Lodkin and Grace, where’s the Canadian Beatles guy)

I’ve gotten so used to audiobook Rocky that his movie voice feels jarring
