Here’s a quick and short fact about Mt. Pinatubo. Did you know that this volcano is still active and just having his deep sleep after his last eruption in year 1993. Also, after 600 years of being in deep sleep, it erupted in June 15, 1991 as being the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century, ejected millions of tons of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere, affected the ozone layer that caused to drop the temperature worldwide, damage crops and some lost their families and home. Mt. Pinatubo is located near Zambales, Pampanga and Tarlac

This is my 6th mountain I had conquer and 4th mountain this year 2017. So far this is the most easiest hike I ever had next is Mt. Balagbag. What to expect during the hike in Mt. Pinatubo? This is not a typical hard assault and forest vibe but instead it’s a long walk, sunny and deserted kind of vibe. Don’t forget to grab some sunblock to protect your skin from sunlight and of course jacket or long sleeves for direct exposure of sunlight.

What I like most during the hike is the 4x4 jeep ride on the way to the start of trek, which is a one(1) hour travel from the registration point. I stand up at the back welcoming the cold breezy fresh air on my face and felt the bumpy and rocky road on the way. It took us 2 hours of walking plus picture taking to get us to summit and mesmerize by the beauty of the crate and the changing of colors of the water. We stayed for almost 4 hours in the summit and due to daily rainfall every afternoon we have to descend before the rain start, because as per the guide it’s dangerous due to landslide or more like laharslide on the way and the current of the river we will be passing through. But sad to say the Mud massage, swimming in the crate and kayaking are no longer being offered to hikers as activities in the summit. During our trek we stumbled some members of the Philippine Army who plans to camp in the summit, we exchanged greetings and smiles with them.

What makes Mt. Pinatubo different from other mountain I had conquered? For me, he is an example of a beautiful disaster, someone you can't just destroy and not every broken can't go back the same. (Hugot hahaha). You might be curious why? Well, first you see even after he erupted 26 yrs ago he's stills attractive especially to those people who crave for a once in a life time experience and someone who is curious of him. Second, I hope you knew that Mt. Pinatubo used to be tall, standing so high but then he erupted and the whole world felt his anger, but look at him still standing even though he became a dwarf, isn't he so strong? If only I could be like him. Lastly, see that boy? He had changed so much after the eruption, he used to have villages around his feet. Villages full of love and laughter and then he lost what he used to have, but he is not forgotten. He cannot be forgotten. People still love him. If only he could feel it on his sleep. I found to love him. The calmness I felt during my stay at the summit. The coldness of water that relieve my exhausted feet. The welcoming vibe. Although he is the most crowded mountain I had been but he still manage to welcome each and everyone, giving space to all hikers visited during his sleep. God is truly an amazing Creator of all.

Friendly reminder don’t forget to bring some biscuits or chocolates for aeta kids you will be passing during your hike :). And please as the popular quote says “ Leave nothing but footprints, Take nothing but pictures…” take your trash with you during the hike, be a responsible hiker. Mt. Pinatubo is a must especially to beginners. Useful tip, it’s more advisable to wear sandals especially if you’re so maarte taking care of your shoes because you’ll be passing through a lot of river, so expect that your shoes will gonna get wet plus the lahar dirt. It’s amazing how God creates and how He transforms. Mt. Pinatubo was known for its eruption back in 1991. It was chaos. A lot of lives were lost, so many homes and livelihood gone in an instant. But more than a decade later, I stood in front of the crater lake after a two-hour trek in awe of its beauty.

It was a wonder. It was beautiful. From the ashes it turned into something this breathtaking. And as I stood there taking it all in, I knew how amazing our God is. He can transform something chaotic into something this magnificent. 

And just when we think our lives are hopeless, just when we think nothing can come out of the chaos that we are in, we can be reminded that our life can still transform into something beautiful.
