Verna Hart — the Harlem-born artist who developed her childhood passion into a successful career — blending painting and music to praise jazz and its performers — will be remembered May 9 at funeral services in Queens.
We are saddened by the passing of artist Verna Hart, whose passion for jazz came to life in her artwork, including in her faceted glass #MTAArts installation at Myrtle Avenue (J/M). Hart said that “Jammin’ Under the El” (1999) is "a kind of jam session of the mind. You can board the jazz express and take a jazz, rock, funk, or salsa journey of your choice." The native New Yorker studied at Pratt institute and taught at Medgar Evans College. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched with her art.
