Siskiyou Out Back 100k. Mt Ashland, Oregon. Incredibly scenic course and all mostly runnable except for all 10,000 feet of uphill. First part of the course hugs the buttery smooth PCT with majestic views of Northern California and Mt Shasta. The latter half of the race the trail gets a bit more steep on the ups (and downs) interspersed with some mellow service roads (which were actually kind of nice) to make up some time and stretch the legs. I didn’t quite chase cutoffs they entire day but was constantly within 30-60 minutes away from the aid station cutoffs starting about the halfway mark. I’m basically a running (actually power walking and hiking) calculator with all the mental math I had to do to make sure I’d have enough time to finish. If you’re chasing cutoffs for this race you best allot yourself a touch more time, because those aid station cutoffs assume you can do a 15 minute mile for a 6 mile section with 2000 feet of vert at mile 40, which I’m not saying you can’t, but you’re probably not at the back of the pack if you can (just saying). The kick in the pants if you make it that far is the last aid station (mile 55) to the finish. The trail Time Warp is 2,600 feet in 5 miles and it doesn’t matter if you’re at the front or back of the pack, it’s steep and relentless and just at the beginning of the climb you get a glimpse of where you’re going and it seems like you’re looking at the moon because it’s so high and so far away. . . #MtAshland #Oregon #SOB #SiskiyouOutBack100k #100k #Trailto50 #TT50 (at Siskiyou Out Back Trail Run) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRMvUUjnG85/?utm_medium=tumblr
