A company in the Atlanta area was hired to do Masonry Repair the left photo shows their work! Not only was it sloppy and never cleaned from the brick it is the wrong type of cement! They should have used a Buff Colored Mortar not Gray Standard Mix! They used a Type S when they should have used a Type N for Tuck Pointing! You should never use Mortar on a Door Frame! Mortar is not Flexible and is prone to falling out! Fill the void with a foam and then use a high quality caulk that is paintable! I added Decorative Trim to Finish the look! The Brick and Mortar were Cleaned with Muriatic Acid to Remove Mortar Splash and Brighten Brick. The Brick was Wire Brushed and everything was Rinsed with Clean Water! Let the work area dry for a couple of days before any work is done in the area that you cleaned. Over the summer we finished a deck project in Dundee. The home owner was an engineer which was great to have on hand if needed. Everything went well and the homeowners were happy to look out over the valley to capture the stunning views. Pro note, talk to the guys at Parr. We used the “rain-escape” system to help manage rain flow, with the added benefit of a 450 sq ft covered patio below.
