JFC YANGCHEN AINT FUCKIN AROUND
This is my first time playing MTG:A when a new alchemy set has been released and may I just say.... WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS NONSENSE?! Guess I will continue to stick to Standard, because yikes. XD
You know what? I'm having just a fully rancid day. I might as well play MTG:A.
What's the most obnoxious standard deck right now? And by obnoxious I don't mean win rate, I mean what deck do you automatically concede too because it is going to be the antithesis of fun to play against? Bonus points for budget substitutions. I only have so many wild cards right now.
I swear every time I think I'm getting better at drafting in MTG, I just get absolutely bodied in the following draft. Maybe even the next two. So I do a very respectable monogreen artifact ramp deck at one point and I think "Oh hey, maybe I'm finally getting this whole draft business" and then I go like zero or one victory on the next two like "Huh never mind." because I can't really tell the difference in power between the decks and I'm not sure if I'm careless with my mulls or just unlucky or what's going on.
I feel like I'm getting the hang of Magic The Gathering at this point, but I will say as much: I do not think I will ever play a game of Historic anything where I do not spend at least half of the time going "I have no idea what's going on here but I'm pretty sure I'm losing."
I don't think I understand MTG:A drafting. I'll make what I think is a pretty good, decently synergistic deck and I get flattened, every time. Then I throw together this janktacular golgari deck with odd synergies and no removal and I get to like 6 wins. It's absurd.
I don't think I've ever been more frustrated at Magic The Gathering than the draft game where I go approximately 8 rounds without drawing a single land against the most defensive blue/black player I have ever met, who ran a bunch of scry and draw/discard triggers that took extra long to resolve because of course they did. I'll readily admit my deck wasn't my best work, but the sheer mind-numbing bored anger of having Board Control Georg over there with 10+ mana and at least half of lethal just on the board fiddling around with their plus counters and cycling their chump blockers from the graveyard was frustrating-tedious on a whole new level. It was actually kind of fascinating in its own way, but boy am I glad to be done with it.
It was probably more a case of good draws meeting bad draws, but rushing down a white/red deck with my white/green enchantment deck felt pretty damn good.
