There's lowkey this guy who keeps putting his shitty mass-produced AI-gen vaporwave albums with this uniform rainbow cover art palette on rateyourmusic and I don't want him to live in my head but he's already living right outside on my doorstep every time I go and look at the new vaporwave releases each week and I wish there was a way to block an artist in such a case but the thing is even if there were he's always using new aliases because of his artistic vision I guess and it just sucks so bad in like the least meaningful way something can suck and it feels super petty as something to get even miffed at but it's like that falling-in-bed sensation where every time I see a new vaporwave release with that same not-entirely-unappealing but by now quite tiring and if I'm being real, shit-eating, yes, shit-eating, rainbow palette I just want to disconnect his internet nothing violent because it's not that serious but I really just would love to stop seeing that art like every fifth vaporwave release please and thank-you.

One of the programming languages whose community I keep up with, one of the big ecosystems' core/founding devs also fields tech support. Which normally I would be ECSTATIC about, but I've seen the following interaction pattern multiple times now:

User: "Hey I'm trying to do X but it's not working. What's up?" Dev: "Ah. That's a bug in the old version, but it's fixed in the new version." User: "Wait but I'm using the newest version already?"

Because it turns out that what the dev meant was "that is a bug that will be fixed in the next major/minor/patch/whatever release". They think about it that way because their mental energy is all focused on the next release. For them, that IS the current version of the code.

My concern is that it comes off as "you need to be using the bleeding edge nightlies of our project" when that is almost never a good idea for end users. Also it's just confusing for the user who thought they were doing the right thing by choosing the stable official release to be told "actually that's broken, sorry".

I don't even think the central content of the interaction needs to change, just... don't describe it as the "current version" when it's in-development code. Describe it as "that's a known issue that will be fixed in an upcoming release" rather than "that's a bug in old code, the current (unreleased, unofficial) code fixes it"

I really dislike the Mary MacDonald stans who are like "she would never obliviate herself she's too strong my girl would never do that!!💪💪💪" It kinda annoys me, because like. Are you guys really embracing mediocre girlbossery over the actual interesting plotline of self-inflicted memory loss? Over exploring the thoughts of a person who was so horrified at their life that they just decided to... start over?
