FNM Legacy @Demospel 12/11
I can still lock a top 8 in our seasonal FNM competition and for that matter I wish to score some points and build up consistency. This is why I chose to play UGw Omnitell for the remainder of the season. It's a fast enough deck to steal some wins but still has some interesting lines. I find it quite hard to play a difficult deck like Sharkstill when my brain is mush at the end of the week without a little rest. It doesn't mean that this deck is straightforward to pilot on the contrary but at least it's not an uphill battle in each machup.
My deck is currently based off this interesting article with a few personal choices. I play UGw because I own a Tropical Island and a Tundra. Veil of Summer is the perfect protection spell for the combo and Uro is good the grindy matchups. White is great for removal and for Teferi and also protects the combo. If I had more Trops and owned the Coatles, I would probably try an UG version but I find removal important. I like to have some wraths as well as they are a perfect reset button if you are really behind.
With Cunning Wish and Solve the Equation package, it's not that hard to find an answer to a must answer threat. Although I'm generally happy about the deck, I would probably tweak some stuff on a per FNM basis.
I had high hopes this time around but I didn't do that well although I started on a bang:
2-0: Humans
0-2: Goblins
1-1: UR Delver
Humans
Humans is a good matchup and I assembled my combo undisrupted game 1. Game 2 I was blocked from casting 3cmc cards pretty fast and I noticed that both my Show and Tell and all my wish package is 3cmc so that's a liability. After I managed to pull a crazy miracle Terminus, I was able to kill my oponent a couple turns later.
Goblins
Apparently, my opponent found it a very good matchup although I though it was unfavourable for him. In the end I was proved otherwise but I also did a few key mistakes. Game 1 I go for Show and Tell and put Omniscience in play. He put a Muxus that fortunately draws him 6 goblins of which a Masked Vandal. In response I cunning wish for Chared Summons which was a mistake. I should have wished for Sublime Ephiphany and stiffle the etb. I would have kept my Omniscience and might have been drawn out of the huge board my opponent presented. Game 2 I keep what I think is a decent hand but I counter a T2 goblin pitching a Brainstorm with another in my hand. Next turn I brainstorm lock myself. In hindsight, I should definitely have pitched the Omniscience instead.
UR Delver
A tight matchup but great games. Game1 we exchange some threats until I can cast my Show & Tell and show him the combo finish. Game2 drags along and the exchanges are pretty unfavourable but his treats are few and far between so I continue to play. Game3 we have 2minutes left on the clock. As I have a fast kill we decided to play the game but I was one turn too short to kill him with Show & Tell + Spaghetti Monster.
Takeways
I'm generally happy about the deck but there are a few things that I would like to change, I'm just not sure in what measures. I would like to have some creatures to pressure Planeswalkers or stall the board versus very aggressive matchups. Black is not very much seen right now but I might try it as I own the Strixes and Plague Engineers. A sultai control variant with Sedgemoor Witch is what I have in mind. We'll see.
