Kickball whoa:
Today at kickball was INTENSE.
Not our game, though. It was the game my one roommate agreed to referee after ours (players ref each others' games) and OR and I decided to stay to hang out with her.
The two teams playing (Red and Purple) were being really aggressive and belligerent with each other. Balls were being kicked at players (not the way they should be) and CR told us she saw a Red team dude step on a Purple team girl's foot and she was pretty sure it was on purpose. Both teams were nitpicking each other with rules that we had to have the people who run the games to come over and ref because they were talking about rules no one's even heard of.
Red team was definitely the more belligerent of the two and I really felt like they'd started it. One of the Purple members (who were all really friendly to us sitting on the sidelines) told us that Red had been talking smack about Purple before the game. Neither team had lost yet this season. But I can't help but think there was a slight racial element, since Red was all white people and Purple was 95% black, 4% POC(not black) and one white girl. And Red was just being nasty in general. One girl did that yell-clap thing, where she yelled something in a really condescending tone and clapped her hands in time. I hate that.
Purple won.
But seriously? This is clearly a drinking league where we sometimes put effort into kicking a ball. It's supposed to be light-hearted and fun and a way to meet new people. Even if we just assume that Red's nastiness to the only all-POC (plus one white girl) team was not racially motivated and just a coincidence, there's no need for it. They've missed the whole point.
soft-grump has never seen "High School Musical." For months, they have been bugging me to watch it, but they failed to mention that they've never seen it. Rectifying it this morning.
