Smol Iruka to end off the weekend <3
Libraries
GIF: From @resourceangel ! (Check them out they’re amazing!!)
Note; I wrote this for @etherealdechart because I know how much she loves books, reading and conman shfdiudfh
Warnings; nothin but fluff bby!
Pairing; Connor x reader.
The musty, yet comforting smell of books, both old and new, filled the air. Their preserved spines, some yellowed and ripped, their bare skeletons exposed; some strong and vibrant, hardly dilapidated at all.
The library.
Escapism at its finest. No matter what kind of day you were having, you always found comfort in this secret section of the world — an almost completely lost art form, since the inception of androids and the acceleration of technology. Although there has been an increasing number of people transferring to the digital versions of novels and other forms of literature, even with the news, you had always found yourself craving the physical aspect; needing tangibility.
Nothing could beat the smell, the soft crackling, and the smooth texture of the pages, even if the bastards, at times, did give you small wounds. It was worth it in a sense, a protest to the ever-growing resentment to the old. Especially in the instance of the library, its existence, its popularity was a reaffirmation to the fact that it was okay to enjoy the outdated; that it was okay to revert back to simpler times and block out the static of an over-embellished, convoluted world.
Despite the reservations you often felt toward technology, you also acknowledged the fact that it was needed. Humanity was way beyond the point of retrograde — humans needed technology more than it needed them. They were completely capable of surviving and sustaining their existence without humankind, and hell, they may have been better off, but regardless, there was still some sort of symbiosis. This dependence was portrayed in the simplest of ways:
Often, you’d see androids within the small building, eyes scanning over pages, over spines, even smiling over the words they had just read. There was a common interest, a mutual meeting ground, and it was clear that you didn’t need to bleed the same colour to have an appreciation for things. We were all just lifeforms with thoughts and feelings, interests and passions riding the same crazy ride known as life.
Nothing more, nothing less.
We may have given them life, and after much kerfuffle, freedom, but we can’t dictate the particulars in which made them, ‘them’; unique, with their own personalities.
Absentmindedly, you lost yourself to your thoughts, walking as your pointer dragged itself across the book’s foundations. Too preoccupied, you failed to notice the figure who had entered the aisle with you as you continued to walk only noticing their presence when it was too late.
Thud.
“Oh my— I’m so sorry, I wasn’t watching where I was going!” you sputtered out, immediately dropping to the floor to grab the book that you had bumped out of the persons hand. Your hands grasped the hardback, your fingers considerably smaller in comparison to the book they had chosen. No wonder it was so loud when it dropped.
Quickly skimming over the cover you came to realise that it was (random book). You had read it before, and although it wasn’t particularly one of your favourites, it certainly was a damn good read. It was one to curl up to with a blanket and a nice cup of (favourite drink).
“Nice choice.” You said, springing back up from the carpeted floor to hand the book back to them. Pushing your hair out of your face once more, you finally looked up at the man, and to say he was gorgeous was an understatement. Briefly, you failed to restrain your eyes from flickering across his face, noticing the small details, from his beauty spots to the softness held within his brown coloured eyes, and even the stray hairs in which deviated from their natural path. You also noticed the flashing of his, now yellow LED.
Smiling softly, you held the book out to him with both hands. “Here.”
The man stared, blinking — once, twice, thrice — before, seemingly having an ‘ah!’ moment. Whispering a small ‘thank you’ he reached down to meet the book with delicate hands, welcoming it back in his grasp. Shoving it under his arm, his right hand fell to one side whilst his left lingered, outstretched. It took a moment for you to understand what he was doing, and you had to stop yourself from giggling at his antics, afraid you’d hurt the android’s attempts at courtesy.
Grasping his hand, you lightly shook it. He was the first to introduce himself.
“My name is Connor.” He stated, his head tilting a tad whilst he waited for your response.
“(Y/n).” You chuckled.
Your amusement seemed to be contagious, as the sweet melodic noise left his lips too. The air around you both was gentle and kind. The slight tinge of awkwardness that always came from new meetings was there, but more or less, you felt at ease.
“Again, sorry for bumping into you, I was totally out of it.” You began, not entirely sure he had heard you the first time.
“Although it is extremely hard for me to come to this decision, I forgive you.” He said, and you grinned at the android’s attempt at sarcasm.
Good taste in books and a sense of humor — oof — you were done for.
Unconsciously shifting your eye line to the book held under his arm, Connor spoke up, immediately noticing.
“You said it was a recommendable read, am I correct?”
“Yes! It’s extremely well written.”
“Is that so?”
You nodded.
“Well, I’ll have to discuss this with you over future meetings to determine whether this is accurate.”
It took you a second before it clicked, and this time you didn’t hold back. Your laughter was most likely too loud for the library, but you just couldn’t contain it. He was so cute! Seemingly, Connor appeared to take your laughter the wrong way. Hints of light blue dusted his cheeks as his free hand moved to rub the back of his neck awkwardly, his LED spinning a deep yellow.
“Are you asking me on a date, Connor?” You asked once you had finally calmed, beaming up at the android.
“I—If that it is okay with you.”
Awww.
“I’d love to.”
