@muchitsujonogeijutsu asked: sender realizes they actually enjoy arguing with receiver. + reverse. [for obito!]
admittedly, he's been having too much fun getting deidara riled up.
all it takes is one measly comment about art, everlasting and eternal, to send him into a complete, red-faced tirade. hilarious as it is, obito does believe that art is eternal. the entire eye of the moon plan is built on the everlasting. a world where everything will be right, forever. but obito isn't even thinking about that when he pitches his voice high enough to become tobi and says, ❝ you know, senpai, your art looks much better when you leave it as is! ❞
he doesn't know why he instigates. it does him no favors to have deidara annoyed with him when they'll be alone together for the next week, but there's something about the quiet that crawls beneath obito's skin. maybe that's why he adopted guruguru's personality in the first place; an extension of himself and an excuse to keep the quiet from stifling him.
the glare deidara gives is withering, and obito pretends to be scared of it. cowers with his hands over his face and begs to not be hit. it's the standard practice in their partnership, and really, he's surprised deidara hasn't picked up on it yet. if he has, he certainly doesn't show it.
they go back and forth, trading wit and insults, but obito isn't really paying attention to the altercation for all that he started it. there's something strange settling over his shoulders, blanketing his entire being as deidara rambles on and on about the beauty in something fleeting. it's not a notion obito ever really considered until they met for the first time. finding life in things that don't last.
as he watches deidara out of the lone hole in his mask, obito thinks about the fleeting moment that this is. the infinite tsukuyomi will leave everyone frozen in time, and everything they currently know will be nothing but a memory lost to something better. deidara would hate the idea, this much obito knows, so he allows himself to think about the now. if there's any beauty in this ragtag group of criminals. there was, at one point. nagato wanted something real; but his dreams were infested with the same rot that obito's own were. he has the chance to fix that, and he will.
so why does he find himself thinking he'll miss these little moments between them ?
their paths likely won't cross in the tsukuyomi. obito's perfect world doesn't include him. yet he's grown used to these little arguments. starts them up at every turn. you've immersed yourself too much, a voice that sounds like madara's whispers, enjoy it now, but don't forget. shaking his head, obito lets out a quiet, trembling breath.
❝ say, deidara-senpai, ❞ obito says, cutting through the argument on deidara's tongue, ❝ i'm hungry. are you hungry ? let's get dumplings ! ❞
that's enough of that. he's getting distracted.
