Bio:
Alexi Pie has always been an odd little pony. Unlike her parents, who scare ponies off with their dry, expressionless demeanor, Alexandrite lives with her head in the clouds. She’s oblivious to everything around her that isn’t part of the natural environment, and isn’t at all interested in ponies unless they, too, share her interests. Outside of her friends and family, she’s rather monosyllabic, preferring to simply sit reading a book or observing any nearby flora and fauna. Her disinterest is enough to drive most away, but she doesn’t mind. She prefers being alone, it gives her more time to focus on things she cares about, like studying and exploring the local Everfree Forest. She is fiercely protective of the Everfree- the only time anyone has ever witnessed her lose her temper involved littering, deforestation, and other crimes against nature.
Alexandrite is a quiet pony, and while more expressive than both her parents, mostly shows her emotions through poetry. She can go on and on about the fascinating interrelationships between different elements of an ecosystem, but has come to realize most ponies don’t find it as interesting as she does.
Relationships:
Alexandrite is close to both of her parents, Maud especially. They both have a desire to connect with ponies but can’t seem to get on with them very well. Alexi's parents were frightened when their daughter started exploring the Everfree Forest. While they did try to discourage her initially, they realized they weren’t getting through to her and asked Zecora to teach her to navigate the forest's many dangers instead. Sandy loves her odd, monotone parents and is always eager to listen to them ramble on about geology and dendrology. They, too will listen when she goes on about ecology. The three of them often bring each other various interesting samples that remind them of each other from work. Maud and Mud both often leave home for months at a time in their research, despite that they’re a very close, happy family.
Her friendship with Orchard Blossom started off shakily. Young Alexandrite was very much annoyed with the artist who for some reason wanted to paint her and kept following her around chattering in her irritating high voice. As time passed, their relationship slowly evolved into a close friendship. Alexandrite no longer minding Blossom's curious questions, enjoying having someone to talk to about soil composition and weather patterns and food webs who was genuinely interested in her talking. Blossom showing her the interesting article about vampire fruit bats she found in an old newspaper. The two of them scouring the forest for dye plants to paint with and Blossom unexpectedly gaining her cutie mark. There’s no one Alexandrite trusts as much as Blossom, and she is extremely glad to call her a friend.
She’s not too fond of Acorn Butter, mainly because Acorn themself doesn’t like her. They seem to dislike how often Blossom leaves the farm to spend time with Alex. Their interactions are lukewarm, and while Alex has her doubts about the unicorn, Blossom insists they’re nicer than they sometimes act. Alex believes her- she must know her own cousin better.
Butterfly, the animal-communicating-healing-powered spawn of Fluttershy and Discord, is one of her few friends. They met for the first time when Alex brought an injured cockatrice chick to the Sanctuary, and have been friends ever since. They often walk the Everfree together in relative silence, neither of them feeling the need to say anything.
Fun Facts:
Her mane keeps shifting and changing color, like an alexandrite stone. In fact, that’s how she got her name.
Despite her disinterest in other ponies' lives, she has an uncanny ability to give good advice- when she can be bothered to.
She and Blossom lead a Filly Guide troop together. She's still not sure how that happened, but for some reason the kids seem to like her.
