Another take on the Oddworld Universe where the Mudokons rules the world instead of the Glukkons, Here with some members of the Mudokon Supremacy. If this is the Mudokon's utopia world, this is sadly not the case for the other race. Persuaded that they're the Chosen race of Oddworld due to having a Moon with their handprint on it, They are dedicated to prove themselves as the best civilization. And since they kinda reduced to nothing every others civilisation, It’s kinda true. Although they live in a world less polluted than their Glukkons equivalent from the regular canon, they still live in a industrial and advanced cities reaching above the clouds. Which is good for them, but the being on the bottom earth does live in an extreme poverty. Although most Mudokons are extremely arrogant and self centered, others have a close psychology to their canon counterpart, being zen and often sympathetic. But they sadly all lose their altruistic side to the well being of the creature and the nature of Oddworld, including their once sacred Scrabs and Paramites. They're more on an omnivore diet. Also, due to better life condition, they tend to live longer. Shamans have the more influence on the society, they're the more brainwashed with their own vision, and they hope Muds will prosper this way .They essentially fed themself with spoose shrubs, greatly improving their spiritual power. Such as controlling multiple other being at the same time. Muds that reach this capacity are part of an high rank of military power. Their skins often turn reds or purple by the influence of Dark Magic. Queens/ Young Queen are very rare, they're a special type of Mudokon. They share the same genetic as other Mudokons, but once they reach Puberty, they tend to get way taller and chubbier than normal Muds. Once one of them is spotted, they get a special education and alimentation, being highly cultivated and smart, and also more than well feed with every kind of edible things, fruits or meat. Biggest queens are capable of producing large amount of eggs during their lifetime. But when they reach this weight, they're totally immobile, to they need other Muds to take care of her. Glukkons slave aren't allowed to see a Mudokon Queen. Like every other Muds, they're persuaded that their race and children are the best of all, but they are way softer in term of personality. In short, if Shamans and cultist are the absolute worst, and are the one who actually dirige and rules the Muds, the Queens are the nicest being ever, maternal and considering, but they doesn't have a lot of power in the society. Muds society differ from tribe to tribe, so it happens that queens have a more active role, but it's exceptional situation, and it's mostly ceremonial. Their skin range to bright blue, green, and sometime yellow. Elders are old Mudokons. They're part of an high council. They're wise and are the hidden good part of the society, preventing a total take of power by the shaman. They do see themselves as the superior species, but they also know how they'd reach this state. Most of them doesn't want to talk about the Moon incident. Others speak about the time where they and Glukkons where once allied, but they're often ignored, and are puts among the lowest class of the Muds society. I was heavily inspired by the Oddswitch AU  and @ghostmoor takes on Mudokons world building. If you're an Oddworld fan, go see his works, it's simply a fabulous work of character design. Who wants mudokon drone/queen headcanons because I got ‘em. a lot of this art is old but it’s mostly still applicable. This might give some insight into Marek and Atchi’s designs (and other characters in the future when I get around to redesigning Marek’s family). Buckle in this is about to get anatomical, nudity ahoy

so we got queens!! not all queens immediately develop into giant broodmothers (in keeping with canon), and there’s some variation, particularly with infertile queens not even reaching full “phase 1″ development, but your average queen looks roughly similar to a worker (aside from genitals and nipples) for the first few years of life, until that phase 1 puberty kicks in and the physical differences start to become apparent

Upon reaching maturity they then STOP and you have yourself a dormant queen who looks something like this:

Above pics are a little outdated, but you can see it clearer here in Marek’s ref; “breasts” that are more like segmented body sections (not soft or loose). A queen who doesn’t develop in the typical way (hormonal imbalance, gonadal agenesis, any other of a number of intersex conditions) might have a very different body shape due to the reproductive system not developing and not taking up as much space in the body.

NOW, when a queen’s eggs get fertilised for the first time, their body undergoes some drastic changes over the course of several months; the abdomen enlarges and elongates, and the segments on the abdomen start to develop into fully-formed breasts

They might lay a few eggs during this process, but the bulk of egg-laying happens once the metamorphosis is complete. Eventually they become too heavy to move - at which point they’ve hopefully had a comfortable, secure nest constructed - and the legs begin to atrophy (are maybe reabsorbed into the body completely? haven’t decided but it’s possible). Eventually you got yourself a fully-developed active breeding queen, as modeled here by Marek’s mom, Nadia

AS FOR DRONES, when their differences from workers become apparent varies wildly between individuals. Some workers are just straight up infertile, end of story; some have to be exposed to certain triggering factors to induce their development into drones, some of which are natural (e.g. hormones/pheromones) and some of which are artificial (e.g. cultural coming-of-age rites or constructed tests); and rarely, some will just develop into drones no matter what.

When workers do develop into drones they are VERY distinctly different. They’re much bigger, and they get distinctive eyebrow ridges and feather crests:

They also tend to grow feathers on their legs and arms, but this isn’t absolute and the degree of extra feather growth varies by individual.

annnnd I think that about covers it, this is (for the most part) stuff i’ve been settled on for YEARS with only minor adjustments to incorporate canon elements

So I made a female mudokon OC :/ I wasn’t gonna make one cuz there’s no canon design, but oh well..

Her name is Sky, she has lived most of her life inside of a lab, most likely to be breed like her mother Sam, but she was rescued. Since she’s never been outside before, she’s very curious and adventurous, however she knows that she eventually has to settle down so that the mudokon kind can survive. And she’s okay with this, but for now she’ll enjoy her freedom. Despite her size, she’s younger than Abe and the others (not by much tho), and because she is a queen she’s also stronger than them.

More sketches of Mudokons characters, I wanted to experiment some pose and expression with theses characters. Once again, they're mainly based on the AU where Mudokons live in a supremacy lead by them and where Glukkons are enslaved. A little thing I thought about their society, is that all Mudokons tribe don't agree on the Moon's exact signification toward them. While most of the tribe and Shamans are persuaded that this a sign of their species's dominance on all Oddworld by ruling all over it, others Mudokons think that this is actually way more spiritual, visualizing it as a quest to supervise and protect Oddworld's inhabitants and Nature. Theses particulars Mudokons mainly constituted of Ivory Shaman, recognizable by their white skin and their falling Purplish feathers, are connected with an Ancient Creature living inside the roots of one the oldest tree in Mudos, called the Great Raisin. According to him, Red Shamans are misinterpreting the Moon's symbolism for centuries. Ivory Mudokons aren't part of the high Council, and are mostly considered as the "Rogue Tribe" among the Mudokons Supremacy. They try to warn Mudokons about Oddworld well being, but they're totally ignored, if not hunted for crime against the Supremacy's authority. ( In very short, they're also the closest thing to the Native tribe from the Canon continuity, mainly the one from Munch's Oddyssey ) Tall Mudokon are, as they name suggest, recognizable by their height and huge amount of feathers on their head and shoulders. Strong and assured, they are Queens and High Shaman's guard, ranged to Mudarcher from Tomahawker. This Anatomical's difference was during a longtime compared and put in the same role as Drones Mudokons, being also slightly taller than regular Mudokons, also with way more feathers, but they're actually a different part in the Mud's hierarchy. It's actually really rare for Tall muds to be Drones, it's quite exceptional. They're still chosen by the Queens themselves to be their protector, and are fondly proud of their missions. Tall Muds that aren't part of the Royalty stuff are still pretty useful to work with others Mudokons at others job. Mudokon are Omnivore, but they are more fonds of fruits. Since they doesn't always go outside their gigantic cities in the sky, they created agricultural greenhouse to grow their fruits (to their credit, theses are actually quite beautiful). Oddworld's fruits are very similar to ours, but their colors, shapes are kind of mixed, Raisins are bright blues for instance and Strawberry have the size and the colors of a melon. And they love it. These fruits are served in huge amounts to Mudokons Queen since they need to adapt their body. In other words, they DO eat a lot. This whole feasting process is actually exhausting for young queens at their beginning, but they eventually comfortably adapt to this diet once theirs organs are used to it. A strange site had appeared within Haven. A large bird, with shimmering green feathers, and one long peacock like plume on their tail had flown in and landed close to Rosie's Barn. the bird gave a regal stride as it entered where Rosie was being housed, at least until her inevitable move.

this bird was acting strange. a regal stride to her walk, a warm motherly aura radiating from her form.

Rosie felt as sick as she looked. Her skin was pale and her eyes were puffy from all the crying she had done the night before. Her arms still wrapped up from her earlier panic attack.

Rosie simply lay in her nest box. Defeated.

She only raised her head slightly as she finally noticed this bird enter the barn.

A real rough doodle of Rosie during her short pregnancy just before the Homestead attack on her village. Despite being preggo with an eggo, she was still a very active member of the Mudtis and still lead hunting parties. She basically did right up until her labour cause you couldn't get her to stay put.

Even after she laid her first egg, she was up and doing things a day or so after. Much to her Drones protest.
