I've got some great news! I've been in contact with one of my friends in Alola, and we have finally done a long-planned trade. Dashy is now officially hers and competing on the Alolan Island Challenge, and we have a new ranch member!

Hey! So I have experience working with mudbray and Mudsdale, and I am wanting to branch out into the ponyta line. Is there anything I need to know in regards to care? Will rapidash and Mudsdale form a herd? Or do they need to stay separate.

The Mudscale and Rapidash lines are pretty similar in terms of herd behavior, and they can coexist together in the same group! However, their typing makes them have very different bonding behaviors when it comes to living together in the same open space.

As you may already know, Rapidash and Ponyta travel great distances daily, and Mudscale, though also able to travel long, they ain't able to follow at the same speeds. Plus their weight makes 'em way less agile when they get spooked so they just...kinda stay in place while the herd runs away, and that's an issue if they live out in the wilds.

For Mudbray/Mudscale, they need, well, mud! And lots of it, to regurgitate and to roll 'round, and Fire types ain't big on that.

So I'd say, they can live together in smaller places like a ranch, a sanctuary, or a battling team! But if you are a nomad rancher or do pastoralism, you might want to keep 'em separate

My mudsdale is acting weird and is refusing to do his normal mud baths. She’s very keen on being in the water but refuses to go near the mud… should I take her to a Pokémon center? This is a new behavior and it’s been going on for a two weeks now.

That's weird behavior for sure. The Mudbray line not only enjoys mudbaths, but they are needed for their well-being: They need new mud and dirt to be dry and strong enough to act as armor and give them the extra strength they need to move their very heavy bodies. Taking baths so often can weaken her mudcoat and can take weeks to fully form again around her legs.

There are many reasons for that behavior, but without more info I couldn't say for sure. It may be that she has been hanging out for too long with other, let's say beauty-focused 'mons, like Delcatty or even Milotic and she's mimicking their behaviors. Or maybe she has a problem with water-weak parasite 'mons like Nincada and is trying to get 'em off. Whatever the case, I'd recommend making a trip to the Pokemon Center and figuring out if it's behavioral or a health issue!
