So this chick thinks that people refusing to work for free is a sign of how we as a generation are entitled and spoiled.

Some highlights....

Translation: "I'm mad because the way people back themselves had changed and I refuse to keep up with the times. Once upon a time people would prostitute themselves to their potential employer to prove their worth; now a days they know their worth and won't settle for less than their value, and also they have fucking bills to pay, and anyway them having a minimum payment standard affects my personal bottom line, so I'm pissed.

Thats literally how I was taught to interview for jobs, but go off. If you're looking for a job that's a career move, as opposed to just a "I need money and I'm desperate and will take whatever you've got" role, then you want to know what opportunities for advancement are, and how their pay structure works. You're not going to take a role that has stagnant pay and no career opportunities when there are so many other jobs that DO offer that.

And even if you ARE at a "I'm desperate and will take whatever you've got" point in your life (absolutely understandable -- I was there 12 months ago), you absolutely never disclose that to the employer. You want them to think that you're an absolute catch, not that you'll accept anything that pays. You still wanna ask those questions, because it tells your employer "this one is serious about this role and their career -- we'd better hire them before someone else does." If they pic k that you're desperate, then -- regardless of what the actual circumstances are of why you're desperate -- they'll assume that no one else is hiring you because you're a shit employee. You want them to think they're fighting over you; that you'll be cherry picking the best role out of the several that are offered to you. That gives you value, in their eyes.

It also implies your willingness for longevity. Most places want you to stay for a while -- they hate the job hiring process as much as you hate job hunting. If you're asking them about your future with the company, then that implies that you're willing to stay for that future, which is good for them.

So....... you're a fucking bitch. Also I'm not sure that that's legal? Especially since you haven't actually hired the person, so therefore have no grounds to be making claims about them?? Also -- you work for Muffin Break. Are you saying that the cafe industry is so small that you have everyone on speed dial and can warn them all of this jumped up little upstart who dares to demand payment for services rendered? Ok, sure.

Also, that's blackmail. "Accept my shitty offer of a high-work-low-pay role, or I'll tell everyone not to hire you and you'll never get a job" that is literally blackmail.

Again, with the borderline prostitution. People shouldn't have to work for less than their value just to prove their worth. That line of thinking is very pre-90s, and most places of worth don't think like that anymore. You want someone to do a role, you pay them that. If they turn out not to be worth it, then you let them go. You don't underpay them to see if they're worth what they say they are.

Also there's another reason people don't do this kind of thing anymore, and it's because we don't trust our employers to step up. Too many of us have worked in roles where our employer has screwed us over -- had us working at the low rate because they could get away with it, or having one person cover two roles because it's cheaper, etc -- that NONE OF US believe that any workplace is going to say, " You know what? We're paying you too little. Here, have a pay rise." Places of work don't do that these days. The only person who is going to fight for our value is ourselves, so we're doing it from the outset and refusing to accept less than what we're worth. And thats a GOOD THING, that we're doing that.

So........ what im getting from this is that you underpay your staff, and when they request the correct award amount, you tell them to go jump. And what I'm also getting from this is that you read aggression where there is none, because I highly doubt that someone who said "if you pay x amount, then I'll accept the job" said so in an abusive manner. If they wanted the job (which they obviously did) then their email would not remotely have been "abusive". And what I'm also getting from this, lady, is that you have no fucking clue how the job market works, because negotiating payment is a significant part of, like, most job application processes.

If the employee's duties were increased while you were away, then yeah, they need to be being paid at the next level up. That's how it works. This is why people don't trust employers any more. "Oh hey can you do my job as a manager for two weeks, but like,, , just as a favour. There's nothing in it for you, not even a two-week pay rise while you're doing increased duties.

Not to mention -- if all your role is, lady, is "doing some extra emails," and that's not deserving of a pay rise, then you should be happy to get paid the same as your subordinates, right? Only, I bet you wouldn't accept that, would you, you capitalistic nightmare. You know why? Cause you have a sense of self value, and you would refuse to accept less than what you believe you're worth.
