the older i get and the closer i am to reaching 30, the more the people around me try to deny me my age. itās a constant āoh youāre just turning 29 again teehee š¤ā or ādont tell your SO that, heāll leave you for a younger model šā and i just???? hate it?????????
i spent my entire teenaged years fighting for my life. i crawled through the deepest pits of my depression to cling to the promise of a life beyond that pain. i was so convinced that i was going to die young, that i would never see the grace of my age starting with a 2, let alone 3.
so im going to turn 30, and thereās not a damn thing anyone can do to stop me from loving it.
this post was up for like five minutes and already im being told how wrong i am
fuck you, you can kiss my 30 year old ass
You know what? I needed to read this today
Iāve been painting little watercolour chickens from a tutorial I like. Theyāre cute, small, loose, easy. And they look great!
Well, they did.
My sister asked if I could paint some chooks for a friend who has a flock. Suddenly all my chickens look terrible š I donāt know if itās just performance pressure or what but Iām strugglinggggg.
Will just have to keep on practising and refining and troubleshootingā¦
Who knew croup could be so scary? (CW medical emergency)
Last night the family congregated at my sisterās place for Mumās birthday. Just as dinner was being served, my husband rushed in with my 6yo nephew, whoās had a mild upper respiratory virus for the last couple of days. He said heād noticed nephew seeming sulky and slinking away down the side of the house after playing in the yard. He asked if he was alright and nephew turned to him with sunken eyes, blue-tinged lips and throat visibly sucking in, and rasped, āI⦠canātā¦. breatheā¦ā. Poor kid had been so freaked out he hadnāt even thought to come find someone - it was just lucky my husband noticed something was off.
My BIL grabbed a spacer and ventolin. My mum sprang into action, bustling nephew down to the shower to get some steam into him. The ambulance was called and within about 5mins (thank God, and amazing response in a semi-rural area) they were on scene, putting adrenaline through a nebuliser for him to breathe.
He was taken to the hospital where nurses and doctors were in the room with him all night. Three times he became similarly affected, needing more adrenaline, as well as hundreds of puffs of ventolin. They even had an emergency paediatric ambulance on standby in case they needed to take him to the Royal Childrenās Hospital - called the PIPER unit, theyāre able to intubate if necessary.
He was finally stabilised in the wee hours of the morning and has now been discharged.
Iām feeling immensely grateful today that we live in a time and a place where we have access to lifesaving medical care. Grateful to God that it was able to be managed with medications and he didnāt need to be intubated. Grateful that heās on the mend and back at home. Grateful that my family have the medical knowledge and presence of mind in an emergency to know what to do. Just. Oh so grateful ā¤ļø
Just unmute. :')
Got a āsoothingā mouth ulcer gel. Oh lort. So āsoothingā it brings tears to my eyes š„µ Eventually the lidocaine kicks in and itās all good but initially itās kinda like applying the fires of hell to the insides of your mouth š§
Information on pruning overgrown plants.
Your goals are to have adequate air flow throughout the plant, remove diseased or dead branches, and have good light penetrating the entire plant.
Remove any branch that is rubbing against another. This can cause an open wound on the branch, which is an opportunity for disease to invade the plant.
Remove branches that are growing toward the center of the plant. Also, remove any branches that cross each other. Remember we want to provide both air circulation and light penetration.
Remove any dead or diseased branches. A dead branch will be brittle, its buds will be brown. While a live branch will be flexible, buds will be green and there will be a green layer under the bark.
Generally, remove 1/3 of the plantsā height or 1/3 of its branches.
Remove any suckers and or waterspouts. These 2 types of branches look similar, growing straight up. However, a sucker originates from the roots or below the graft. While the waterspout will be vigorous and originate from the trunk or large branches.

Iāve always been a bit uncoordinated. Probably comes with the neurodivergent territory. Or the hypermobile territory. Maybe both. ANYWAY. Iām 33. I am rarely in a situation that calls for dancing in public, but if and when it happens, I want to be ready. So how does a dorky millennial learn to bust a relatively coordinated and vaguely cool-looking move? Are there classes one can take for āinformal dancingā? Should I be looking to TikTok for inspiration? Halp!
I had a roasted pumpkin skin leftover from making soup, and was carrying it out to the compost while chatting to my dog, who was a) in need of a bath and b) sniffing the food scrap in my hand.
āYouāre smelly,ā I told her. āYouāre a foul-smelling beast.ā [Noting her interest in the pumpkin] āThis is the skin of a -ā

You ever just going about your life and suddenly realise youāre wearing your arm like a hat?
So, Melbourne⦠we still on for summer on Friday?
write for yourself. put your fantasies on paper. no one knows what you are writing. no one knows what's in your head. no one is going to write it for you. if you don't write down your ideas they will disappear. if you are too scared to write your thoughts then don't write, try something different. if writing is the only way, get to writing. no one else's opinion matters. no one else's opinion will ever matter
this isn't about sharing or posting your work, btw. this is just about writing it at all. BUT for things you want to share....someone is waiting for your story. your rarepair. your bizarre self-insert oc. your ""cringe"" obsessions. someone out there wants to find it and go "yyeeesssssssss thissssssss! finally!"
even if your thing is so niche it's only that one person, you just made their day? they will replay your story in their head for years. stories i didn't even like come back to me at random times because i learned something from them or they evoked an important emotion. sometimes they just used a word in a way that stood out to me, so now i use it that way too.
you never know! you cannot imagine how much someone might want to read your ideas! hell, they don't even know until they read it!
Watching the Loki series has made one thing clear Tom Hiddleston would be brilliant in a Rik Mayall biopic (at least playing some of the older years). I mean, Iām not the only one surely who noticed some very Rik-ish moments, particularly in season 1, am I?
