muggle weapons vs. Spells
so, i’m rereading HPOoTP and i had this sudden thought ‘Could a spell such as Protego stop a bullet or a sword or even a simple knife’ and so naturally, i pull up the soundtrack to the eighth movie (because dramatic thinking music) and i decided to ask the Potter!Side of Tmblr. Please help me with my struggle internet
So how cool would it be if they used muggle weapons at the battle of Hogwarts along with all the magic. Like what if Uncle Vernon’s “drill” business was a super secret weapon company and he’s been building up an arsenal just in case he needed to protect his nephew. And the only reason the Dursleys were mean and abusive to Harry all this time was to throw off everyone (including Harry); to make everyone think that they hate him. But that wasn’t the case, it really was that all this time Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia were trying with all their might to protect Harry in the only way they can - the muggle way.
And even Dudley didn’t know about their plan, until a year or two before the battle. Which is why he apologized to Harry the last time he saw him.
Just think about it though, magic is super powerful and great and all - until you don’t have a wand. But if you had muggle weapons then you’d still be freaking dangerous. Imagine if Fred had weapons with him. Like, the death eater disarmed him but then Fred could be all “Oh, darn, I lost my wand. BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS MOTHAFUCKA!!” And then, strapped on his back, would be a back-up machete and an assault rifle.
Plus, the death eaters wouldn’t even know what to do. They don’t know any of this “muggle stuff”, they’re all pure-bloods. But all the wizards in Hogwarts who were raised in the muggle world would know exactly what all this was about and would be able to teach all the other students. (Or Aunt Petunia could hold a class with the Muggle Studies professor to explain to the other kids how to use her husband’s weapons.)
This could be a surprise for even Voldemort. McGonagall could be all “Oh you got past all my statue soldiers with your giants? WELL I HAVE SOMETHING ELSE FOR YOU!!!” And then she’s shooting at Voldy’s army from a tank.
So seriously, muggle weapons could maybe have helped in the battle. All of Voldemort’s followers looked down on muggles and “mud-bloods” before. That could’ve easily bitten them straight in the butt.
