“i’m not mad,” she said quickly, like she needed to get it out before anything else could be said. there was this quiet aftermath from their argument earlier, the kind that just sat there. heavy and unresolved. she felt stupid about the whole thing, honestly. she always did this. showed all of her emotions at once, let everything spill out. she knew she was too sensitive for her own good. sage kept herself moving, trying to stay distracted, focusing on whatever work she could find for herself. it was harder to just talk about it for some reason, like the words wouldn’t come out right even if she tried. she kept her face buried in some mail about a new product coming to her dispensary, eyes locked on it like it mattered more than anything else in the room. “i’m just — busy." it was a lie. “you know how crazy work has been.” hardly sticking but she said it anyway. “i’m not mad,” she doubled down, “i don’t even care anymore.” another blatant lie, and she knew it. still trying to keep herself distracted, still pretending like they weren’t standing just feet away from her.
