INTRODUCING 'MUJERES TEJEDORAS'

We are so happy and proud to present our newest associates 'Mujeres Tejedoras' (Weaving Women)

'Mujeres Tejedoras' is a cooperative of 10 women in a small highland village called Santiago Zamora. About ten years ago, they were around 25 women who decided to gather forces and work together in a cooperative.

They wanted to attribute to their families income, but with one main goal - paying for their children's education.

There are public schools in Guatemala, but it is not without expenses. You always have to pay for all the utilities required during a school year - pencils, paper, uniforms, glue etc. This is often a very big expense for the families, and therefore they choose to take their children out of school to work instead.

But for these women, the most important thing is that their children gets an education in order to hopefully get a better life, with more opportunities for work.

I will introduce them one by one later this week. They are the most sincere, lovable and genuine women.

We truly hope that our collaboration can evolve into something continuos and sustainable. At the moment they are working on beautiful bags and awesome floor pillows.
