Dr Myers said it would be a good idea to write stuff down. There’s a lot to process and she says trying to keep it all in my head will be difficult.
I cam to Abel Township on a helo from Mullins Base. We got shot down by… well… we’re still trying to figure that one out actually. We were getting close to the Township when, out of nowhere, we were struck by a rocket launcher. The helo went down in a swarm of zombies; Sam Yao, radio operator from Abel, was able to guide me out of the area.
My pilot… she wasn’t so lucky.
It was all such a blur, and to be honest I’ve been trying not to think about it. I guess I should… at least acknowledge it. Come to terms with it. At least once.
So, we were hit. Sam told us to parachute out. In the chaos, I just… well I just did as I was told. Just as I was exiting, though, I realised my pilot wasn’t with me. I don’t know; maybe she was trying to guide the helo to a particular spot to try and give the best chance of survival from the zoms. I never saw her exit the helo when it hit the ground.
Not that I had much time to look; Sam was shouting at me to run as fast and as far as possible. I could barely see for tears in my eyes, or think for panic in my mind. My legs were moving but I wasn’t really aware.
I never saw her get out. Did she get out? Did she make it? If she didn’t, part of me really hops she died on impact. That sounds awful doesn’t it. Wishing for a colleague to die. It’s terrifying that this is what we’ve been reduced to; death being a preference. But I hate the though of her getting stuck and having to… and being… of turning.
Ok ok. I can’t think of that anymore.
Well, I was running. Just… running as fast as I could. Then Dr Myers and Sam asked if I could run by a nearby hospital to see if I could get some supplies. To be honest, I just wanted to get to safety, by Dr Myers outright said if I didn’t bring back something of note, that it was unlikely I would be able to stay at the Township. Harsh, but it makes sense I guess. Everyone’s got to earn their keep. So far all I’d done was get out of trouble with the aid of Sam and the doc; I needed to at least return the favour.
Luckily I was able to pick up a CDC file, which Dr Myers said was important. So that was my ticket in. Still, it would have been all for nothing had I been caught out by the zombie attack just before I got back to the Township. One of their old runners was head of the pack; she had to be gunned down.
Will that end up being me.
Sam decided to name me Runner Five. Apparently, I’ll be replacing the one that was shot down today. So I guess that’s what I’ll be known as now. It’s not like I can b=go back to who I used to be before all this happened.
When I got back to the Township, I was met by Dr Myers, who gave me a quick check over, and I met my zombie apocalypse tour guide, Sam. Pretty cute to be honest… not that that’s important… obviously.
I’ve been fed and watered, and thankfully I’ve been able to wash. Although, the smell of burning helo and rotting zombies is hard to shift…
I should sleep, if I can…
