Drew something for the first time in awhile!
Positive representation is so important, especially when it comes to mental illness.
One of the reasons we're open about Arien and I (it's Bael here, right now) running this project together is to help de-stigmatize Dissociative Identity Disorder.
We share one body, but we're two different people. Unique artists with individual skills that we both bring here. Like my eye for sketching features, his for vibrant watercolors.
There are ways in media that we're demonized and thought to be "crazy" or unable to function, and we want to prove these people wrong.
Yes, we are disabled and we do need a service dog. But we also run three businesses together, are mindful and compassionate, and work hard to help other disabled people and survivors of abuse.
Last night, I watched a movie that stigmatized DID in a very bad way--so it has me thinking a lot today. About how proud I am of myself and the rest of my system for all we've made from our trauma.
And how grateful I am to have you all here on our journey too. This project is near and dear to our hearts--and you truly feel like a family to us.
So thank you. We truly appreciate you.
Hopefully, you'll share just how amazing people with DID can be. Maybe this project has inspired and educated you.
If you have questions about the disorder, you can always send us an ask. We welcome them!
Nora and Bonnie are the most unlikeliest of friends..
Bonnie sees herself as an ugly monster, she looks up to Nora a lot because she is very beautiful, she calls her Dolly because like a doll she is flawlessly pretty. We gave Bonnie her name because it means beautiful, but she continues to reject it and doesn’t want to have a name. Nora calls her Minnie because she is small. Despite their differences they experience similar emotional pain.
Consuming..
