Twitter: I tweet constantly.
Facebook: Not much composing gets done here but endless scrolling/intake of "information?" Duh.
Notes for iPhone: Keeping lists, writing down funny/memorable things I hear, reminders for later.
Word: taking notes in class, writing papers.
PowerPoint: taking notes in class
Pen & Paper: Spanish homework
Snapchat: Arguably, I'm composing using Snapchat. Taking photos and giving them captions. Sometimes filters. Sometimes I even add a personal artistic touch using the draw function.
I am fully aware of the fact that my use of multiple mediums and my desire to incessantly multitask vastly inhibits my productivity. Especially when using multiple mediums at one time (i.e. scrolling facebook while writing a paper, tweeting while taking notes in class, etc.).
I am making a conscious effort (really, I am) to set boundaries and cut down on my use of many different mediums, specifically when it comes to multitasking. I am so scatter-brained, the distraction of multiple mediums open at one time is almost too much for me to bear.
There's also something significant to be said for taking a break from ALL mediums and just allowing the brain to exist in solitude and rest. In all seriousness, our society does not know what it truly means to rest. I'm challenging myself to remove myself from distractions and give my mind, body and spirit a break and allow myself to process.
So my point? Yeah, multiple mediums help us reach our maximum productivity sometimes. But. The line between increasing productivity through convenience and versatility of a medium and inhibiting productivity by offering a whole host of distractions is hella thin.
