This is a poster that I had snapped on campus and had been meaning to share. I saw it right around the time we went over fonts and the flyers simple layout and design made me think of that.
The clean and simple design is what intrigued me after the capital “A” anarchist symbol caught my eye. Most of the posters around campus are cluttered, busy, brightly colored and designed to attract the eye. With this poster, it was its bare bones design and simplicity that made it stand out. I initially wondered to myself why they wouldn’t have designed a more exciting flyer, but I think the designer was confident the words were strong enough.
Some of the statements sound like they’re taken out of “The Turner Diaries”, a terrible white power fantasy novel that included details that inspired the Oklahoma City Bombing in the 90s. The straightforward way that it describes making and distributing bombs is chilling, and needs no flare or vibrant colors.
Another thought I had, if you are making this kind of poster, you probably don’t want just anyone to see it and get in touch with you. You don’t necessarily want it to be so eye catching and visually accessible that it gets quickly pulled down. You’d probably want something that blends in a bit, something you have to work to find, you’d want to reach someone that could be dedicated to the political cause, whatever it may require.
In light of the past week or two that we have discussed the happenings in Ferguson, this image really spoke to me. I feel that this picture really speaks for the southern more than northern states in the U.S.
I just feel this picture hits on so many points that are so true in the south today. We say we are one country…but in reality “the ol’ South” still exists. Whites have always been poor judges of what’s racist or how much so and it’s no different today. If a white teenager had been Michael Brown do you think the officer would have shot him?…repeatedly? Most likely not.
[This picture shows that not all Black people] are violent and dangerous all the time like many people are led to believe. Mentalities from the past 150 years still exist in policemen today. They immediately become suspicious of any Black [person] walking on the street.
I know i’ve kinda been all over the place with this blog, but there’s so many things to analyze on here and its hard to hit every item. I guess my main message in this picture is that racism is still a very prevalent thing in America today.
American Racism against Blacks. Digital image. Abagond.wordpress.com. N.p., 17 Jan. 2013. Web. 17 Nov. 2014. <https://abagond.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/american-racism-against-blacks/>.
This is a very strong visual argument. It is almost haunting to see the Confederate flag bursting through the American flag. Basically showing us that the ideals that we attempted to dismantle 150 years ago are still around, so did we win the Civil War? Or did we just appease the situation with such things as the Jim Crow laws.
While I believe that the majority of us privileged whites would like to see all of racism die with the last generation, it continues to be passed on. This just provides more proof that we need to invest more in our education. Social injustice and racial equality should be the keystones of "social studies". If we continue to teach our American history like it something out of an epic narrative, how can we expect white kids to not feel privileged when they grow up?
Final Revision of my presentation.
I realized that some people in the class did not pick up on the topic of my presentation. So, I added some contextual clues to what each picture is supposed to be telling us. This presentation is intended to educate veterans of war on how the American public is told how to feel about military conflicts overseas through photojournalism.
FINAL PROJECT: Social expectation and perspective of athletes. Made by myself using film from YouTube and Hudl.

Based on feedback I received, I changed the proposed solution from one that those who already believe in the cause to be aimed more towards those who need to change, my target audience. In addition, I made two of my examples less intense in order to make my poster more approachable which in turn will hopefully prevent deterrence due to the uncomfortable references.

View the Kobe Bryant moves into third on NBA all-time scoring list photo gallery on Yahoo Sports. Find more news related pictures in our photo galleries.
This is a gallery of photos of Kobe Bryant, shooting guard for the Los Angles Lakers, during last night's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves when he surpassed Michael Jordan for the 3rd place spot on the NBA all-time scoring list.
The gallery shows images during the celebratory moment during the middle of the game. The owner came down and presented Kobe with the game ball right after he attempted two free throws to surpass Jordan. The images show cheer and happiness, they also seem to portray Bryant as a righteous man and a humble figure.
Not to hate on Kobe, since he does play for my favorite team...
But
Kobe might be remembered for his great scoring ability, championship rings, unblockable turn around jumper, and having to change his number from 8 to 24 after an alleged rape scandal.... all in perspective though am I right???
NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) - A 17-year-old student at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan decided to use his lunch break to play the stock market - and...
Well this blew my mind..
I know this is a visual rhetoric class but I think you can visualize this kid and his daily life and picture what he had to do in order to make a net worth at such great success.
I can visualize this kid sitting by him self during those lunch hours and after viewing the movie wolf of wall street, he decided to try his hand at playing penny stocks in the stock market, while gaining very few friends in this process.
But through this story he has shown what true determination and interest can bring to someone who gives effort to what they want.
Ford Dream big Commercial
Here in this commercial, ford has santa allowing kids over the world to video call in to his workshop and ask for ford cars for their christmas presents. Here is a little black boy asking for a ford fusion...
At the end of the commercial ford has this kid talk about how he needs to the car to drive "to go get a fresh new line up", now understand, I do have black friends who will go get a new haircut once a month at least to keep their hair neat. The commercial goes even more racially stereotypical by having santa a white man, mis -understand this little boy's slang.
It seems odd to me that Ford had this boy, stick to a racially stereotyped slang and attitude, and allow for this to transition into white santa claus missing understanding his vocabulary.
Here you have the KFC christmas tree commercial.....
If you were to watch this commercial you would see a black family getting ready for christmas time, what most viewers dont see is the sterotypes that are portrayed in this commercial.
The black male shoves an obnoxiously large christmas tree through their front door exclaiming he had found the perfect true, playing the archetype of the foolish black character.
The family is then portrayed here sitting around a dinner table, with fried chicken of all of them sharing, this buys into the stereotype of black people loving fried chicken. This could not be anymore naive for a director to sell such a over generalized stereotype to the public viewing this commercial.
part 2 of 2.
Here is my first video of my final presentation. Part 1of 2.
I really need a peer review for my final project. I was absent due to various reasons so I never was able to get one. I would be more than glad to give someone a review if they need extra feedback.
This is my email if you are interested ( I can email the folder containing the pictures of my project ) :
description of project:
For my final I wanted to make people aware of the repercussions of America’s legal system. I believe that our prisons lock up many Americans who deserve lesser punishments as well as better means for rehabilitation. Originally I was going to gather statistical data on things such as racial disparity, parental dilemma, and other socio-political consequences tied to felony crimes. The hard statistics alone is an eye opening argument against the way America’s prisons take effect on society.
I decided to take another route for this project, however, because I wanted to be more personal than presenting a PowerPoint with numerical data. Instead, I made a comic on paint by sketching and coloring multiple slides to present a story. This does not seem effective towards an older audience, but I mainly had our classmates in mind when focusing on audience. Unfortunately, convicted felons are deprived of the right to vote. Therefore, it is more effective to target our generation of younger people who have the opportunity to push for reform.
Although a comic is not the first thing that comes to mind, I thought it would be useful to express myself through it because of my interest in becoming a screenwriter for cartoons or television. The humor helps provide an interesting background for a situation that turns awry and involves the law. Despite being fiction, the story itself seems to be a possible situation in which I ask the audience to reflect on.
Hey guys- Here is my presentation I didn't get to do in class.
If you get a chance to watch this in the stress-laden haze of this week comments would be great. I guess email #Prof or maybe I'll make a page on the pb works main page? Anyways, "May the odds..."
