This is a MUCH darker take on the AU.
I personally prefer a darker reason for Dream eating the apple. Either that or baby boy has WAY too much pent-up negativity and SNAPS. (I am evil and no I'm not sorry. Dream is a fun character to experiment with).
Shade needed his family and said family was not there for him. Desperation and fear drove him to do the unthinkable. To willingly SHATTER himself. Alone, afraid and out of options he ate the apple.
