today I'm thinking about a mumarou Journey to the West AU, where instead of getting kidnapped all the time by demons who want to eat and/or fuck him (though that happens too) monk Mumen is constantly throwing himself into traps because what if it's real this time, Garou! He can't take that chance! While Garou is over here like THAT CHILD HAS THREE EYES AND HORNS. HE'S FINE, I PROMISE. The other disciples (Pigsy Bat and Sandy Genos) have a running debate on whether Mumen actually thinks he can defeat the demons he keeps trying to fight, whether he's genuinely so noble that he can't bear the thought of someone being in trouble and not trying to help, or whether it's all a trick to make Garou keep having to rescue him and speedrun teaching him empathy by being too stupid to survive without him. (It's probably a little bit of all three.)
