Torment Nexus : "an idea that is so bad and dangerous in theory and practice that its indistinguishable from capitalist satire".

Luddite event : After the creation of textile machines (which produced fabric at a lower quality but faster rate while being dangerous to operate), textile mills fired a huge amount of their workforce leading to the remaining workers becoming overworked. A Luddite event thus in this context is "an innovation that is exaggerated to excuse mistreatment of the workforce".

While I didn’t believe Lestat had been completely forced to participate in the trial, my theory was that he went there, yes of his own free will, but with a single minded plan to save Louis. That the goal had always been to somehow save Louis, and his greatest sin was that he didn’t have a goal in mind for Claudia at all.

That he didn’t go there to save her or kill her, that he just hadn’t went there for Claudia for any specific purpose. “It was never you” foreshadowing that his increasing disregard for her wants, needs, her overall life would be their undoing. That only during the trial does he acknowledge how monstrous the full scope of his attention can be (the drop) before also realizing how violent the full scope of his neglect could be (not saving Claudia.) That he has harmed them in these two completely different ways, but only realizing it after it’s too late.

At least that was my theory. There are many ways to interpret Lestat’s involvement in the trial. But I never once thought he went there to eagerly murder them both.

Lestat can be impulsive, but there is no way to impulsively support and rehearse the lynching of your Black husband & daughter. You don’t stumble and accidentally lynch someone. When it comes to racism, Lestat is ignorant af, but that’s a level of antiblackness that makes unholy family, Lesclaudia, and Loustat absolutely terrifying.

Lestat is far from a moral character, but at least have his thought process and behavior be consistent. And while unholy family do have extreme grievances with one another, Rolin is going full unhinged with how senselessly he’s trying to destroy all nuance that existed between the three of them.

The key to writing good fanfiction is to harbor a deeply humiliating desire, and the trick there is that even pretty basic and societally-accepted desires like “being held” and “being wanted” CAN and WILL be humiliating if they’re intense enough. Become so estranged from human connection that the idea of someone playing with your hair fills you with yearning so deep you feel like you’re going to throw up and you will write some banger fanfiction. It might have some other consequences too but idrk about that.

fine i'll say it again armand was literally banking on the fact that as soon as lestat entered stage left he'd slip from louis and claudia's mind. also another dead giveaway re armand having a considerable hand in putting together the trial script is that there's no mention of him and his relationship with louis at all. obviously lestat is still to blame but if this was purely lestat and samuel beckett the talamasca agent then there would have been a moment in which lestat pointed his long claw at louis and went my harlot wife tried to murder me and then didn't mourn me for longer than a handful of years before taking up with my nemesis
