for my 24th birthday babo and i took our first road trip together in years to savannah. despite spending my entire existence in the state of georgia, i somehow had never been.

we met goats, cows, emus, llamas, and miniature donkeys at a gas station petting zoo on the way. jumped in the atlantic ocean and froze our asses off. hunted for seashells. explored savannah, got lost, took tequila shots at pinky master’s, got lost again. witnessed a dodge charger hit another car and fly six feet in the air before somehow driving off. accidentally convinced countless locals that we were in a cult while trying to find the lodge of sorrows. and saw wednesday on a thursday.

on friday we explored savannah some more, found bacon-egg-and-cheese bagels and coffee that were somehow the temperature of the surface of the sun and never cooled down, saw the grave of america’s foremost painter of miniatures, and walked along the savannah river.

i’ve had a lot of shitty birthdays for a myriad of reasons but this was a really good one

the sunflower seeds we spread for the birds are so eager to sprout they can't contain themselves

we've had so much rain this week. it shutdown the highways and overwhelmed the water treatment plants and hid the horizon with fog

in the last month, boba's brought me two dead moles and one chipmunk. they're limp and lifeless but unmutilated and she trades them for just a couple of treats. she's so excited when she presents them to me, and i'm proud of her, but still sad for the little beasts

everytime she heads out, i warn her against interfering with the songbirds, but i know if she has a chance at a cardinal, she'll take it

last night, i slept well and dreamt of a life in a tall tower and dreamt of going to another room to kiss a girl and dreamt of signs with almost words dancing and shaking into the shapes of happy animals

later today, we're going to heat up a cast iron wok full of peanut oil and deep fry natural casing sabrett's and crinkle fries and i'll drink a tall boy and fall asleep watching baseball on the couch

the three of us hiked up stone mountain in the dark and watched the first sunrise of the new year together

this year was extra windy. the granite was dry, the fitting secure. i saw one parent, fighting the wind, holding their toddler down on the ground by their shoulders while another parent tried to put an extra coat on them before the toddler or the coat blew off the mountain

fallie brought out the hand-knit shark hat that i bought him the first year we dawn hiked together. he didn't have a hat then because we live in a subtropical climate and also he was a teenage boy

there was a person in camouflage coveralls and a purple times-square-planet-fitness twenty twenty-four top hat who seemed like they might be in charge of everything

the drummers this year were little kids doing a recital. they accompanied a dancer in white robes

there was no obvious cult presence like previous years, not even the new year's regime exercise cultists

in the last month, the three of us have been in the middle of a lot of intense change, some good, but also some actual upheaval, and an ongoing hold-your-breath-slow-motion family emergency. we are all fine; it has been difficult to find extra words.

i know some of it will be good, and some of it will be bad (and some of it may be very bad) but i'm here to see what happens next
