They isolated me, and all I had was the darkness… But there was a wee clock in my room, and when things are that quiet and that dark all you can hear is the clockwork and your own heartbeat. I’ve heard people find that sort of thing scary, but drowning in that sound… It was gorgeous, like all the noise in my head, all the thoughts and the worry were being chased away by the ticking — and did you know your heartbeat naturally tunes into whatever you’re listening to and joins in? That’s how it was for me, anyway… After a while my heartbeat would match the ticking and it was like everything came together… Like everything suddenly made sense, even when nothing really did.
