Indeed, looking back, Danganronpa installments up till now had no room for romance emotion. (確かに今まで恋愛感情が入ることってありませんでしたね) -Kodaka Kazutaka, in the interview held in 18th of February, 2017

This practically defines all the ships in DR lol. 

I kind of get what he means by this though. Everyone was put under the pressure of killing each other, so there wasn't really any scene that you can actually call a romance. There were partnerships, friendships, but nothing you can really call a romance. This kind of strengthens my theory that Naegi had closed his heart off to everyone else to concentrate on getting out of school. Same for the guys in SDR2.

I'm pretty sure there was a moment when the characters had affection for someone else, but those feelings were pressed down immediatly due to the circumstances.
