This mosaic mural on Mercaderes Street, by Andres Carrillo, is located across from the Marqués de Arcos mansion (an 1844 house that was the center of art and culture in Havana, Cuba) and is made up of 52 panels that depict 67 outstanding figures in the history and the arts in Cuba. If you look close, you’ll see that the painting has a “sandy” texture. The texture and colors were derived by Carrillo’s special technique of drenching stone powder in acrylic resin and four basic colors of sand that resulted in creating multiple shades.
