Three girls had to be lowered by their mother out of the second floor window to the father and two bystanders waiting below, according to the Victoria Fire Department.
In Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, there was an arson attack on the home of Father Yuriy Vyshnevskyy of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Nicholas.
Police and fire officials are investigating.
Given what’s currently going on in Ukraine, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that this was instigated by pro-Putin agents.
Vladimir Putin has a long record of poisoning political opponents in Russia and abroad. Putin’s agents are suspected of strangling an exiled critic of the régime in London in 2018.
It’s not just Putin’s political opponents who should fear for their lives but also people who may have “dirt” on him.
Since the invasion started, three Russian gas execs were found dead under unusual circumstances. Two of those suspicious deaths took place in two days.
• Sergei Protosenya, formerly the chief accountant at Russian gas giant Novatek, is the latest to turn up dead, Spanish news site Telecino reports.
The 55-year-old millionaire was found dead along with his wife and daughter at a villa in the town of Lloret de Mar near Barcelona earlier this week, law enforcement sources told the news site.

The family was visiting Spain over the Easter holidays. Protosenya was said to be worth about 400 million euros.
• [Protosenya’s] death reportedly took place on April 19—just a day after a former vice president of Russia’s Gazprombank was found dead along with his wife and daughter in similar circumstances in Moscow.
Vladislav Avayev, 51, was found with a fatal gunshot wound in his multi-million dollar apartment on Universitetsky Prospekt on April 18, local authorities said. • On Feb. 25, just one day after Russia launched its all-out war against Ukraine, 61-year-old Gazprom exec Alexander Tyulyakov was found hanged outside St. Petersburg. He had served as the deputy general director of Gazprom's unified settlement center, or the treasury, for corporate security. Though his death was deemed a suicide, Novaya Gazeta reported at the time that Gazprom’s security service arrived at the scene and pushed out local investigators.
Putin spent the first part of his career as an officer in the Soviet Union’s secret police (KGB). Several years after the collapse of the USSR he became head of the FSB – the successor of the KGB. He has no compunctions about killing or framing people who get in his way.
As for Fr. Vyshnevskyy in Canada, there’s not yet direct evidence linking Russia to the attempt to kill him and his family. But the arson at his house does appear to be related to him being Ukrainian. His church next door was not involved in the arson attack – so there’s no basis to consider this an anti-religious hate crime.
Family 'filled with gratitude' for support in wake of arson at Victoria home
Canada has been outspoken in its opposition to Putin’s invasion. The country has a large ethnic Ukrainian population. It’s inevitable that Russia will take measures to intimidate opposition in the West. Putin behaves like a mafia boss with nukes.
As a footnote to those who may be wondering, Fr. Vyshnevskyy is an Eastern Rite Catholic. Unlike the much larger Western Rite, priests are able to marry and raise families.
