Musella lasiocarpa is the only species in the genus Musella of the banana family Musaceae, an endemic to southwestern China. It is wildly cultivated by local farmers and they use it to feed their pigs. The leaves don’t look very good because it’s winter here atm.

Plantains are probably native to Southeast Asia, from where it spread in prehistoric times to South Asia and Oceana. Today the plantain, a hybrid of two wild ancestor species, is widely cultivated throughout the humid tropics. Unripe, green plantains are commonly eaten as a vegetable. They are boiled, fried, grilled, or barked and used in soups, stews, and stir fries as well as in meat, fish, and vegetable dishes. Ripe plantains are commonly fried in oil or butter and served as a side dish or dessert. Fully ripe plantains can be eaten raw in fruit salads, although they are not as sweet as a desert banana. Dried plantains are made into flour that is often used as infant food. Ripe plantains can also be fermented to make a mildly alcoholic drink. The leaves of the plantain are commonly used as plates or wrap food. Plantains are not as sweet as desert bananas because they contain more starch and less sugar. Plantains are a good source of potassium, magnesium, niacin, and vitamins B6 and C. ・・・ #growninhaiti #plantain #musaceae #flowers #tostones #platanos #haiti #ayiti #growth #abundance #foodforest #agroforestry #nogmos #nopesticides #noherbicides. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7jUklxlXNQ/?igshid=vup2b6qo4naw
