It's that beautiful, melodious, familiar voice that stirs and rattles his nerves in a way he still can't explain. It's not unwanted, far from it yet even knowing that does nothing to keep his mind and body from initially freezing up for a moment or two but he does recover and he willfully pushes past all of that. Taking a gulp and lifting his gaze to find her. The irony, he could conquer most fears during any battle but she could undo him with the simplest of gentle sighs.
Come on don't draw a blank, not now.
"Matsumoto-san! I-is that really how you feel?" Shit, that came out badly, she might find it belittling and he'd never want her to see him that way "I mean," he shakes it off and clears his throat, "Plenty of people enjoy poetry and the writing arts from a humble place, it can't always be ego-based, right? Is it pretentiousness? Or, well, I mean, not to argue or anything, because I'm not but isn't it sometimes just self-expression for the sake of self-expression or even self-reflection?"
Why was he debating it though, did she see his journals? Was he feeling some sense of a defense mechanism because of his own writings? He was drowning himself in over-analyzing the entire scenario now.
