The night wind cut sharp across the rooftops of the Fire Nation capital as Sokka crouched low, listening.
He hadn’t meant to overhear it. Truthfully, he’d only followed the hooded figures because sneaking around enemy capitals was a habit that never really left him. Old instincts, sharpened during the war, still hummed in his bones. But the whispered words that drifted through the alley made his blood run cold.
“…during the comet festival. He won’t see it coming.”
“…the Fire Lord won’t survive the night.”
Sokka didn’t wait to hear more.
By the time he reached the palace gates, he was already running—arms pumping, breath burning, brain firing faster than any boomerang throw he’d ever made. Guards shouted, but one look at his face made them hesitate. He wasn’t an enemy.
He was terrified.
They ushered him through torchlit halls until he was standing before Fire Lord Zuko.
Not wasting time, Sokka bent over, hands on his knees, sucking in air. “You’re—” He swallowed. “You’re in dan…”
"Heard you had yourself some sort of exhibition event going on? I could give you a hand. Except I don't really fight with swords. Or in your case...that boomerang." Hiro says.
//To Sokka//
Sokka blinked up at the massive wall of a man looming over him, boomerang halfway polished in his hands.
“…Uh,” he started eloquently, eyes sliding from Hiro’s shoulders to his ridiculously huge fists and then back up. “First of all, this boomerang has saved the world at least—” he held up a finger, paused, then added two more, “—three times. Maybe four. Depends how you count the one with the wolf-bats.”
He stood, dusting off his pants, trying very hard to look like he wasn’t a whole foot shorter and ten arm-lengths lighter.
“Second of all, the exhibition is less about, y’know, smashing people through walls”—he gestured vaguely at Hiro’s general… size—“and more about refined technique, strategic thinking, impeccable style—”
He accidentally elbowed his own satchel, dropping a bag of snacks. Some spilled. He pretended they didn’t.
“—and the occasional dramatic pose.”
Sokka cleared his throat.
“But hey, if you wanna help, I’m not gonna say no. We could always use muscle. Preferably muscle that doesn’t pancake me. So… what exactly can you do? Besides the whole ‘terrifying mountain-man’ thing—you got, like, special moves?”
(theshsllibrarian) Vincent chewed on his lip nervously as he waited in Sokka's college dorm room to come back from practice.
Sokka returned and tossed his bag to the side and paused halfway through tugging his shirt over his head, dark hair still damp with sweat from practice. His brows lifted when he noticed Vincent sitting there looking like he was about to confess to murder.
“Whoa, okay, that face usually means either bad news or you broke something expensive.” He snorted softly, tossing the shirt onto his desk chair. “And for the record, if this is about the ramen cups again, I was gonna clean them eventually.”
He grabbed a towel off the bed and rubbed it through his hair before glancing back over at him, expression easing when Vincent still looked nervous.
“Hey.” His tone softened. “You good?”
Sokka leaned against the side of his desk, arms folding loosely over his chest. “You’ve been sitting in my room waiting for me, so I’m guessing this isn’t about dirty laundry.” A crooked grin tugged at his mouth. “Unless my shocking inability to do chores has finally pushed you over the edge.”
(theshsllibrarian) Vincent looked down at his coffee and the number written on it before looking back up at Sokka. Face blushing and surprised.
Sokka stood at the counter, grinning like he'd just won an Agni Kai. The barista's wink was quick but devastating, his hand still mock-saluting as he mouthed, "Call me." The tanned student gave Vincent a playful finger gun before turning to the next customer. "Next in line!" he called, his voice cheerful and his attention just distant enough to leave Vincent both flattered and yearning.
(theshsllibrarian) Vincent hummed as he cuddled into Sokka's side. Enjoying a nice night in from the cold.
"Ah, finally! I was starting to think you’d never get in here. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m totally fine being the big spoon and the little spoon at the same time, but it’s much better with you actually here." Sokka grinned, wrapping an arm around Vincent and pulling him closer. "Now, let’s soak up this warmth before I start making bad decisions… like trying to build another 'genius' invention to keep us warm. Spoiler alert: last time, it caught on fire."
(I'm assuming you want them already friendly, lol)
@droplct
Sokka stumbled forward into the kitchen with a massive yawn, nearly walking straight into Katara before catching himself at the last second.
“Woah…hey… easy there, morning sis, or whatever it is,” he mumbled, voice rough with sleep. His hair stuck out in every direction, tunic half-tied, and dark circles dragged under his eyes like war paint.
He squinted at the sun. “Why is it so bright…? And why are people still celebrating… didn’t we win yesterday?” It had been in fact almost a week since the end of the war and the rise of Fire Lord Zuko. “Fire Nation is crazy…how’s Aang?” He asked as he bent over a sink to wash his face, one hand idly scratching at his belly.
