WE SO CLOSE FAM
“ It’s… you’re scaring me. I have this weird feeling you’re going to leave. ”. ( dark / iplierisms )
“ I do do that from time to time, don’t I? “
Wilford’s blatantly aware that, maybe, he should be treating this situation with the seriousness it requires. But it’s difficult for him to flip that switch in his brain. He doesn’t like to be serious. He never has. It makes everything feel too real, and that’s scary.
But sometimes he does have to make the effort, and this seems like it should be one of those times. Dark isn’t often so... open about this sort of thing. It should be addressed.
“ But... I always come back, don’t I? There’s far too much at stake for me to just up and leave. I have... well, you, for starters. “ With that, Wilford slings an arm around Dark’s shoulders, drawing him in close. “ And my career, and Yani, and Yancy, and the other lovely little egos around here. I’ve got a whole life built up here! With you, no less. “ He gives him a comforting little squeeze.
“ What’s got you so up in a tizzy all of a sudden? Where’s this all coming from? “
@iplierisms
❛ do not do that. because you could get hurt or worse. ❜ ( detectiveliving?? )
“ What? Oh, come now. The things that come out of your mouth. I’m being perfectly safe! “
What could possibly happen to him that would be worse than that? Of course, staring down the barrel of his gun as he cleans it, the Colonel may have a moment of realization, to which he simply blinks and turns the gun some other way. Well- it’s not like he doesn’t know his way around a gun anyway. What does he have to worry about?
“ I have plenty of experience with weapons, you know. I appreciate your concern, but you know it’s wholly unnecessary. “ Although maybe not as unnecessary as he’d like to say it is. “ Would you like me to stop? Is this making you uneasy? “
@detectiveliving
“Do you think the stars can see us?” ( iplierisms / hematite?? )
Realistically? No. Honey knows what stars are, and it’s not exactly feasible for them to be able to look down on them. But does she wanna be the jerk that ruins this sweet, hopeful moment they’re sharing, looking up at the night sky? It feels nice for a moment, somehow, to think that it could be true.
“ I think it’s a nice thought, “ she says softly, after a moment of consideration. “ You know, some of those stars are bound to be far off planets. And some of those planets are bound to have intelligent life on them. Isn’t it nice to think they’re looking up at the same sky, thinking the same thing about us? “
She thinks it is, anyway.
“ It makes the universe seem a little less lonely, doesn’t it? A little more connected. “
@iplierisms
Dark was early to the visitation session. He had been lucky enough to not need a number or his name on a list to see him, although it weren't as if he couldn't get them. He filed in with everyone else, looking for Yancy. When he found him at a table, he triple checked his visage was being maintained in color. This could take some time. "hello there, yancy. it's a pleasure to meet you." He has a small bag with some basic necessities one might need here. Something to use as an excuse. (iplierisms
@iplierisms (okay I waited it’s now 6am xD)
-
The only reason Yancy ever bothered showing up for visitation day was the slim possibility of meeting them again. He was slumped across the table, idly picking at the edge of one of the band-aids on his face. Another mess had gotten him more of those childish bandages. In the hope that he would be allowed to leave, he was snapped to reality at the sight of someone approaching the table.
He didn’t recognise the man. The stranger had a suit and a bag of stuff. This was bad. Walls immediately shot up.
“Uh... Hey. Look, I don’t care if youse is one of them social workers or one of those psy-folks -” psychologists, Yancy. “- but I ain’t interested.”
❝ i’m here for you. ❞ ( - venturezone / magnus if you want?? )
@venturezone / magnus
magnus had always been the easiest to read of the reclaimers, the most forthright with his affection, especially when angus was involved. its his tone that gives him away every time, and surely it wound’t take an expert detective to see it. that deep rumble of a voice, full of warmth when it speaks, gentle and low, to him and to the others he’s taken under his care ( perhaps the way he’d address his own son? )
in a place where so many of them kept secrets, the honestly that magus brings to the bureau is refreshing. he tells stories of their adventures, keeps in the bits angus knows he hasn’t told the director, with a wink and a ‘i trust you not to snitch, ango.’ so, the words mean a great deal when he knows the man intends to follow through on them. to check in between missions, to ask about his magic lessons with taako, to make sure he’s alright, now. after angus has confided in the man that perhaps they can’t trust the director at all and perhaps they aren’t as safe as they thought up here.
but a great detective like angus? he’ll be alright. with a grin that tries to communicate he’s got this mystery that’s slowly begun to unravel before him under control, angus puts a hand on magnus’ forearm.
“i know, sir. and- while, of course, i appreciate it, you have nothing to worry about.” and with that, he’s packing up his notebooks, slipping them back into his bag, and turning to leave before the director has even notices his absence. “i’ll be okay. i’m quite the skilled detective, remember?”
“ i thought you’d like this. ” magnus holds out a little wrapped gift. it's a book ; he thinks he grabbed the right one. ( -venturezone,, if you want,, )
@venturezone / magnus !
candlenights at the bureau is always a whole big affair. lucretia makes sure of it; a big party with all their friends, current bureau staff members and beyond ( because the moon base doesn’t have to be much of a secret anymore ), festivities and treats. and of course there’s angus the young boy donning a blue jacket and silver bowtie in the spirit of things, chatting with carrie and killian at one of the large dark mahogany tables lucretia has set up for her guests.
when magnus approaches, carrie and killian greet him, big grins and friendly handshakes, before easily falling into their own little conversation, leaving the boys a lull to exchange gifts. angus beams up at him, holds back his now too formal ‘hello sir,’ settling for an equally enthusiastic, but much more familiar greeting. one meant for old friends or family, and not merely co-workers. “magnus! happy candlenights!”
as polite as he is, angus is still just a boy, and his eye widen with excitement at the gift in the man’s hands before eagerly taking hold of it and tearing off the paper in one swift movement. it was so well wrapped too, he spares a moment to think, and promises he’ll compliment magnus on it after he sees what it is. but that train of thought is quickly halted when he discovered he’s holding the newest caleb cleveland novel. the impossible to find, sold-out nearly everywhere caleb cleveland novel.
incredulous, but grin across his face, he launches into a series of “thank you, thank you, thank you! oh magnus, where did you find this? this- no one has this, not this time of year, at least! how did you- magnus, oh, thank you so much!”
and suddenly, magnus has a tiny boy detective with his arms flung around his midsection, pulling him into a hug, mumbling another string of ‘thank you’s into his shirt.
