Kaneda had come to this arcade, the very same one he’d always dropped by, ready to kick back and enjoy part of a day off. As he walked through the doors, he was greeted by a sight unfamiliar. The place was packed, more than he’d ever seen in all his time as a patron. It was like a sea of people had gathered in one spot, all of them crowded around some light-gun game. Never really his thing, but there must be something to them, if they drew a turnout like this one. After squeezing his way through enough people, he could finally see what was going on.
There was a girl playing, one he didn’t recognize, but immediately thought was drop dead gorgeous. From what he’d heard thanks to onlookers, she hadn’t used a single continue yet, and this was her second run through the entire game! That had him curious. Brow furrowed as he watched her at it, hitting every enemy with such accuracy. It actually made him tense to see it; here he was, dreading a slip up that would squash all her effort. Her score kept climbing higher, an he spotted determination in her body language. So that was it: she was trying to beat her last high score...
