Somewhere for this, death and guns
We are deaf, we are numb
Free and young and we can feel none of it
Laura Aileen Hardy (nee Campbell) grew up in a loving home with both of her parents as an only child in Bayport, Massachusetts. Like many like her, she grew smitten with the boy down the road named Fenton Hardy, and they would play endless adventure games together, pretending to solve mysteries and chase after monsters, until they grew out of those silly games, and grew to fall in love with one another. During their senior year of high school, after several years of steady dating, Fenton proposed, and they got married after they went to university.
Fenton was accepted into the police academy the same year Laura got pregnant with their first child, Frances Thomas Hardy, nicknamed Frank. Being a stay at home mom, with Fenton’s older sister Gertrude, nicknamed Trudy, moving in to help, was one of Laura’s biggest dreams. She thrived on caring for her first born, and fell pregnant after Frank was three months old with her and Fenton’s second son, Joseph Irving Hardy, nicknamed Joe.
The Hardy household became a bit chaotic then. Fenton passed the academy with flying colors, joining the Bayport Police Force and quickly climbing ranks. Frank and Joe were rambunctious boys, developing their own personalities, and growing up under Laura and Trudy’s care. Trudy, having not been married and never had children, was as close to Laura as if they had been sisters their entire lives, and she helped Laura keep the boys in line, though she always had a sharp witted response, and some tactfully placed advice with her own opinions sprinkled in. But that was just Trudy.
When Frank and Joe entered middle school, Laura decided to get a job, and was quickly hired to the Bayport Library as a research librarian. Much like Frank, Laura loved to learn new things, and she became so proficient at her job that she was the most requested at the library for finding information that one couldn’t find very easily on their own. She even convinced Fenton to buy a couple of computers so she could take online classes as well, earning a small degree in English, as she started developing a dream of writing a book.
Laura had to put that dream on hold, however, as Frank and Joe were becoming more and more obvious in their desire of following in Fenton’s footsteps, as Fenton was now an incredibly talented and highly sought after private investigator. She knew of the dangers, especially with Fenton training her and Trudy the more high risk his job became. She learned how to code letters, and speak a few languages, including American Sign Language, something she also taught the boys. When Frank and Joe entered high school, their own little mysteries started to get bigger and bigger, until Laura was beginning to grow concerned, and dreaded the day when something serious would happen.
Despite her worries, and her growing sleepless nights, Laura still supported Fenton and their sons in their budding careers. Joe thrived off of helping people, and Frank seemed to enjoy learning new things along the way. The family eventually met and found an emancipated minor named Taylor Borelli ( @fidelixcorde ) and welcomed her into their home, where she ended up joining Frank and Joe on their mysteries, showing exceptional skill and promise. But the nights they wouldn’t come home scared Laura, and the days when they would return covered in injuries almost made her cry. Trudy said again and again that they were too young for this kind of job, but Laura still persisted with her unending support. As long as Frank and Joe and Taylor were helping people, then the risk was worth it.
