Guest Commentary by Saint Bomber
Reco dodges more bullets in stage one than mega man does in his entire series. Curtain fire games seem to be a fairly casual exception to the general tendency for warriors and pilots in video games having to be male. In arcade style shooters like Touhou, Cotton, Cave and Psikyo games and the like, it is not uncommon to see girls atop or inside terrifying war machines that pump out unbelievable volumes of firepower, and are required to dodge in equal measure. Despite this, Reco spends most of her time in Mushihimesama laughing and being very chipper through the whole process, even as bodies and explosions carpet the screen. But then, when you're riding atop a golden beetle the size of a Volkswagen, perhaps the world has precious little surprises left for you. Its also worth noting that it isn't until the sequel that Reco is joined by a selectable male character.
Okay, so my teacher showed this to us in class today and I can't stop watching cause of the music and the random Japanese screaming.
Cave Report: Mushihimesama Futari Hits iOS on April 5
An iOS port of Mushihimesama Futari [AKA Bug Princess 2] will be available on April 5 for $5. That's less than a week away. If you dig it, buy the 360 port [it's originally an arcade game]. The 360 version is region free and will ring in at less than $40 shipped since it's been given the Platinum Collection treatment. Futari is one of only three games I gave a perfect score back when I wrote for TheBBPS (Border Down and Bayonetta being the others). Seriously - buy this game.
A Little Bit on the Mushihime-Sama Side: So we've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Mushihime-Sama HD will be out on May 24. The bad news is that the standard edition will cost nearly $90 and the special edition (which includes alternate cover art and a soundtrack) will cost over $110. And that's before import shops like Play-Asia jack up the prices. Is that going to stop me from buying it? Hell no.
