I am fascinated by the magic of taking ink on a page and turning it into art. I wanted to give a few of my tips for sight reading better and faster every time: 1. Look at the tempo, meter, and time signature. This info is vital to sight read successfully. Be sure to check for half time, double time, or other markings that indicate something out of the ordinary. 2. Look through the piece for all the most difficult passages (such as sixteenth notes or accidentals ) and decide what tempo you can execute these successfully at. Even if you have to play at a slower tempo than written, it is better to do this than fumble through the notes when you get to them. 3. DON'T STOP PLAYING. If you get to a troubling section or you know you're going to fumble through something, it's far better to keep the tempo going and plow through it and get back on track as soon as possible.
