Fans of the “Pitch Perfect” series first encountered the diverse singing group, the Barden Bellas, as a college that were engulfed in the acapella world. “Pitch Perfect 3” finally steps out of that comfort zone by showcasing the Bellas as adults living an “adult lifestyle”.
The world is reintroduced to the group’s determined leader, Beca Mitchell, who is played by Anna Kendrick. Beca has just quit her diminishing record label job. Kendrick was first introduced in the “Pitch Perfect” as a humdrum college student whose dad made her participate in an extracurricular activity on campus. Kendrick eventually loves the group and becomes the leader. Chloe Beale, who is played by Brittany Snow, is suffering through veterinary school. Fat Amy, Rebel Wilson, is pursing her Fat Amy Winehouse impersonation. With everyone’s failing career, the Bellas reunite one last time for the for a singing competition at an overseas USO tour but must compete against a group that uses their voice and instruments.
While the Bellas are not competing in the usual collegiate habitat, the acapella competition gives the viewers a different side of the Bellas. The casting of contemporary artist DJ Khaled is a reminder that there is a significance different between the demands of real life pop and the demands of the acapella world. The Bellas were eventually able to successful mashup pop songs without instruments sounding amazing.
The Bellas are still longing to perform as they did during their college days, singing in the group with their friends so much that they decide to compete in one last competition in a split-second. Participating in a music group has brought the Bellas together as a family. Beca and Fat Amy as adults are still living together as roommates after college. The Bellas are practically sisters to each other because the love of music has brought them together.
According to a local MSU Marching Band Member, being apart of the band has allowed her to create a family on campus. It allows her to feel comfort while she is away from home. Being apart of music group allows you to spend excessive amounts with others who have the same interests as you which is creating music. When you are in a music group it allows people to come together for one purpose to entertain others who enjoy music.
Critics of the movies possibly said that “Has their time in the sun passed? Are they old hat?” No, these girls time has not passed. When these girls work together the girls are amazing. The Bellas love one another, work together, and encourage each other. Even though they call each other out on their mistakes they constantly promote growth amongst each other. The Bellas even save each other’s life when, they are kidnapped by Fat Amy’s estranged father.
Some critics feel that the film was just thrown together since in “Pitch Perfect 3”, included an unnecessary plot involving Fat Amy’s being nervous about her absentee father suddenly appearing. They also feel that the director, Trish Sie has not sketched the characters and their background too well because we are just being introduced to Fat Amy’s absentee father and understanding his character. Critics opinion also stated how the film failed to live up to its predecessors which had higher box-office sales.
Pitch Perfect 3 has brought in $183,621,545 in the box office, while Pitch Perfect 2 has brought in $184,296,230 and Pitch Perfect made $65,001,093. Pitch Perfect 2 has brought in more money than Pitch Perfect 3, possibly because it was directed by Elizabeth Banks. Elizabeth Banks has directed other well-known comedies movies including, “AIDS: We Did It!”, “Movie 43”, etc. Banks is currently directing “Charlie’s Angels” which is the reboot of the 2000 action comedy based on the 1970s TV series. This movie will be released sometime in 2019.
There has been some uproar for the true “Pitch Perfect” fans because “Pitch Perfect 3” was nothing like the other previous movies in this sequel. This uproar could have potentially been caused by the change of directors, since “Pitch Perfect 3” is directed by Trish Sie. Sie has directed other projects including, “Step Up All In”, and tv series “Kirby Buckets”. Even though “Step Up All In”, is a well-known movie it only made $14,904,384 which is significantly less than the previous movies. Even though Trish Sie has other movies that did amazing in box office “Pitch Perfect 3” did not do better than the previous movies in box office.
