To all people who call themselves Americans:
Apathy (n). The exact definition of this word is “lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.” However, apathy is much more than simply a lack of concern. It is staying silent while watching somebody’s dream of safety and freedom be taken from them. It is not standing up for the millions of people who have no rights. It is looking on while an entire religious population is shunned from the United States of America.
Wake up. I am begging you. This battle cannot be fought if you are uninterested in fighting for innocent people. Women. Children. Families torn apart by the lack of human decency shown by the leader of a superpower, a nation that was built on defending religious rights. Do not look upon this with closed mouths. Do not avert your eyes from the television screen because it makes you “uncomfortable” seeing refugees in peril. Do not choose to ignore because it does not concern you. It does concern you. It concerns everyone in this world.
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
These words. These beautiful words are engraved on America’s heart itself - the Lady Liberty. A national symbol, the pride and joy of this country. This nation has so easily forgotten what made us strong to begin with. Different cultures. Different religions. Different values. If we are so willing to throw this away, the very essence of what America is, what values are we still willing to uphold?
Let me tell you the answer. It is none. For when we lose our empathy, we lose all sense of our humanity.

End the Muslim Ban! All you need is love
