That said Butch Hartman verse would make some really interesting messed up antagonists in a bad-action movie edgy “discount Justice Lords” kind of conflict that the actually canon compliant protagonists have to take down and show ‘no everything about you is bizarre and wrong-headed dear god why’.

Any unusual ships you like?

I ship DreamTime hardcore because a friend and I decided to play around with “what if Nocturne and Clockwork are ancients and also friends” and then I fell in too deep. Romantic, platonic, hateship, idec just gimme gimme.

I also ship Dan and Fright Knight because shenanigans. This is not incompatible with shipping Dark Gray in which jealous background Fright is a feature, not a bug.

Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

Hooboy. This could get me in trouble.

Could we maybe expand beyond the angst a bit guys? I mean it’s great and we do good but after a while darkness induced apathy starts setting in. Like, it feels like there’s a lot of vast untapped potential for complex and engaging conflict sacrificed in favor of having easy bad guys to kick any shred of light for anyone down into the dirt and reinforce that “this is a cruel harsh world and you can’t get over it because we won’t let you. Just Suffer”.

C’mon. That’s not any more realistic than either a fluffy bright happy world or the superheroics that are the heart and soul of the original show, but between these options my heart’s out for the one that reminds me how funny and determined and goodhearted our Hero has the potential to be while respecting that the kids go through Hell hand in bloody hand.

And I wanna see more interesting antagonists dammit. Gimme the GiW agents who signed up because they wanna protect people or because they’re curious rather than because they HATE GHOSTS RAWR. Gimme the Observants who are dealing with being the Ghost Zone version of the IRS because Pariah left the place in shambles and they’re just trying. Gimme human factions that are enthusiastic, for good or ill. Gimme more ghosts that challenge Danny to reconsider punching as a first move because they just wanna afterlive. SHOW ME THE WONDER OF THESE WORLDS AS WELL AS THE DARKNESS.

Because damn I wanna see those fireworks Go.

Vortex has really grown on me, wheezy voice with ham and all.

I blame RP shenanigans making me wanna develop him into someone who covers up feeling like he’s phenomenally bad at being a person with a lot of bluster and attention-getting while also dealing with all the pollution gunking up his lungs and making him... well. An ass. Plus a totally headcanon’d family conflict that just Isn’t Working Out That Well.

Also fite me I like Tucker Foley because I feel like despite the occasional ghost envy he doesn’t lose sight of how important Danny’s humanity is and actually makes room for Danny to be a kid along with the hero business. He deserves some credit.

What unpopular character do you love?

Nocturne, Nocturne, Nocturne.

He’s my pretty starry bedsheet with an unfortunately sharp smile, wonky psychic abilities, and total ragdoll physics I love to paint all kinds of weird headcanons on and no one can take that from me.

On another note, Fright Knight and Pariah Dark because I developed headcanons and universes related to them and I’m attached now.

Mmm yeah, probably. If I can’t be nice I try to stay in my lane, you know?

At the end of the day it’s up to me to keep a dash I’m happy with.

Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

I can’t fully pin down hating any particular pairing on my own exactly, but getting a chance to throw around in this sandbox has definitely invited me to play around with more possibilities than I used to.

Probably a bit of a boring answer but ironically when I was watching the show for the first time I was more invested in what was actually going around in the worldbuilding than in any pairing shenanigans, though I’ve definitely gone back and forth on Danny and Sam a few times both with and without fandom commentary.
