Had a nice conversation at the craft store with someone of indeterminate gender who shares my distaste for crocheting with embroidery thread (don't do that! It lacks twist! It's meant to come apart! It splits! It isn't durable! I have a rant about this) and my joy in having a mug collection that doesn't match. Said conversation sparked by the fact that my gf bought me a giant mushroom mug! It's got a frog on it!

I was born in Oregon, which is home to the largest living organism, a giant network of mycelium of a honey mushroom (Armillaria ostoyae, there's multiple species called honey mushrooms. Some are edible some are not) and it's fruiting bodies. It covers 3 square miles, weights between 7,500 and 35,000 tons, and is between 2,000 and 8,000 years old. DNA testing shows the huge patch is all the same mushroom, spreading under the soil and killing trees (some trees benefit from mushrooms but this mushroom is a parasite).

Guess what the next mushroom on my flannel is gonna be :D
