I've said it before and I'll say it again: Light Yagami would've been an incredible hero if he'd been put into a rpg/fantasy style story.
Unwavering will and devotion? Yep.
Strong urge to fight for justice and what he believes is right? Uh huh.
Willing to stop those that would commit evil? Mmmhmmmmmm.
Intelligent, creative, resourceful, self sacrificial, a likeable personality? Eeeeyup.
If he'd been given a magic sword and a quest and not the death note, Light Yagami would've thrived. Might've pulled an Anakin Skywalker eventually, but still.
Light's character was like, "what if we gave a would-be hero an alluring weapon of total power?" And then y'know. The power corrupted, as it does lol
Unfortunately, he was doomed the moment he found the death note.
